Local man sentenced to life in prison

A local man received a mandatory life sentence in prison Thursday morning at the Columbia County Courthouse after being convicted last week of molesting a child.

n Another local man was also sentenced Thursday to 20 years in prison after being convicted last week of battery and first-degree arson.

Ronald Pincus Sr. was convicted May 22 on charges that he molested a young neighbor last year. He was arrested on Feb. 13, 2006, and charged with sexual battery on a child under the age of 12 and

lewd or lascivious exhibition in the presence of a child.

He was found guilty on both charges.

Third Judicial Circuit Court Judge Paul Bryan handed down a mandatory life sentence to Pincus Thursday morning for the sexual battery charge and an additional 15 years, set to run concurrently, for the lewd or lascivious exhibition charge.

In the state of Florida, sexual battery on a person under the age of 12 is a capital offense and calls

for a mandatory life sentence if convicted.

“Mr. Pincus violated the trust of both the child victim and her parents,” said Todd Hingson, assistant state attorney and lead prosecutor. “This is a parent's worst nightmare. At least we can rest assured that Mr. Pincus will never violate another child. He is where he should be, in prison for the rest of his natural life without the possibility of parole.”

Later Thursday, Lake City resident Lee Snyder, 42, was sentenced to 20 years in prison after he was convicted last week of battery and first-degree arson that stemmed from a July 6, 2005 event.

Snyder, who was arrested and initially charged with attempted first-degree premeditated murder and first-degree arson, was on trial for domestic violence-related offenses against a former live-in girlfriend, said Debbie DeNike, assistant state attorney who served as lead prosecutor.

At his trial on May 23-24, Snyder's attempted first-degree premeditated murder charge was lessened to a battery charge.

In addition to the 20-year prison sentence, Snyder will also serve 10 years probation once released.

Both Pincus and Snyder were represented by Rob Baker of the Public Defender's Office.

yea i hear all the time, they get off like crazy no then is really done to them to scare others off.

good to hear there is a judge out there who give it to them but good.

will i can only hope he get HIV/AIDS in the jail house and die in 5yrs in there as will.

Sounds like a proper law system. We had a bloke in the UK who raped a nine month old baby, filmed it etc. He got life but told he would be out in seven.

sad thing they may get life! but your's tax payer money be paying to keep them alive and feed as they stay in jail besides over head cost.

cheaper to kill them off, i say hang the sick minded fools, get it over with! or let them stay alive for 10yrs then get it over with totally, but them to death.

i say let them build a new river from East U.S.A coast line to the West coast line were there is no river at all.

it may take them a life time to get it done! but hey they work thier sins out doing it lol
