DF2 suddenly freezing and then resuming

I have been playing DF2 for years. All of a sudden I noticed that out of no where (whether online or in quick missions) the game will just freeze or get suddenly veeeerrrrrrry slooooow, pause for a minute and then resume. Of course, by then i am dead. it is very frustrating. I updated graphix drivers, even installed a new graphics card, no difference. Today, I uninstalled game and reloaded, reloaded patch and still the same thing. I am at the point where I can't play the game anymore because it is so sketchy for performance. No other game I have does this. Has anyone see this or can you offer suggestions?? Thanks! -Duke Pukem...

whats your computer specs?

sounds like it need to defrag or something in the back ground is butting into it. check to see what other things are running in the back ground.

Did a defrag and nothing is running in the background other than antivirus which has always been running. Nothing has changed on the computer in a year.

Compaq computer 1.8g processor. 2 HD's, 1 is 80g the other 200g. I have an NVIDIA graphics card 256m, previously i had a 32mb NVIDIA card but the game was freezing up with that too. I have removed the drivers, re-installed, removed the game, reinstalled, defragged and tried the game on the 2nd drive. Nothing. Thanks! This started back in July out of no where and is getting worse.

I know of nothign that has changed on the system other than the regular windows updates. I am running directx 9.0.c, i even tried re-running that install. I did notice today, running dxdiag, that a couple of the tests would behave the same way...slow...but why would it act this way over 2 different graphics cards?
