Sad thing! :(

http://www.diskusjon.no/lofiversion/...p/t552748.html

For those that dont know what it says, its four international service vets that go under with their tank when the ice under the tank collapses, two of the four man crew didnt make it, either crushed or drowned during the international exercise in Norway, this is one of the things thats so devious up here when it comes to operating military equipment, its impossible to know if you're driving on solid ground or ice. This time the ice didnt coop with the 62 ton heavy tank. Its a shame that the saftey isnt better then it is during these exercises

Its one thing to die during combat and another to die during a peacefull exercise

Sad

when i was in the service 1977-1987 we always train in all season in the winter time, we had ice/snow buildup under side, we had to remove it first before even going under the beast trooper carrier or Tank. we had to do this in the woodland area.

yes man can lose their life if they don't play it safe.

we use to cheat by driven the tank or troop Carrier at high speed across terrain at high speed. but some time if the tank or troop Carrier is broken down this can be hard and one have to go under start to chip away the buildup of snow or ice from the under side without being under the buildup of it all. we use to work from front to back as we chip the build up away.

very sad they lost their life for this reason. god bliss their family and love ones

to bad they did not know they was on top of a waterier area the ice under them gave away.

there is a area in Germany its like a muddy area in the winter it freeze over but under it about 2-3ft its still wet this is a danger area to drive over, many lost their whole tank/troop Carrier totally with all personnel in them. this area now days is close off now days. i know of 8 trooper Carrier (8ea M113) vanish totally in one night training mission next day there was a search there was no then to find at all, it taken a group of people to check the ground in a small area they found all them under 20-30 ft in the mud.

we gave a nickname to these type area death-pits do to your can't never know were they are. mud pits are the worst type, can't see them at night training when it happen its to late people following behind can't see ether (what has happen to the lead tank) they follow right into it as the lead tank/troop Carrier go right into it. these bad area very large they can take a whole company or squad size in a a blink of a eye its too late. same can be said for freeze water ways as will. snow make all things look like a open land scape and some case's you never know your on a lake that has freezen over ether.
