500GB On a DVD

This should be interesting. And I thought 50GB was alot...

It would take 11hours to write/read 1 full 500gb DVD .

I think we should just give up completly on the disk. We should just use solid state drives and flash cards. It could be 100x faster, and 10x smaller. The only thing is the storage capacity . SD cards are only 8gb as of right now. But that's a DL-DVD. They are always increasing in storage capacity while getting cheaper.

Yes but the speed will increase as it always does. Anyways it would be awsome for Server use. Tapes take a long time too and are more prone to data damage because of the magnetic property, so this would be a serious improvment!

i can still record 6hrs of movie on one single DVD 4.7gb
but 500gb i can cram a lot into that without making shortcuts in the movies.

HDTV movies all the way lol
