it may get people to go green burning fuel as will. if the price is too high to pay out of the pocket people will go buy what is cheaper fuel type.
maybe this will get america off the oil import crap. USD-97.00 barrel

Everyone thinks its so bad here... $3 is nothing. In Winnipeg Canada I pay $1.30 a liter. 3.79 liters = 1 gallon. That's $5.20 a gallon with the exchange rate...
I payed $3.25 to fill up with 93oct (premium) last night in minneapolis. I can still buy a 20oz bottle of coke here for $1.00, whereas in Winnipeg I'd pay $1.90. Cigs here: $5.00, cigs there: $10. My 37" LCD TV here: $1,299, There: $1,599. We have it pretty good in the states... for now.
