well it's a simple rule of physics that no matter what, an atom cannot be destroyed nor can one be created. so if it goes into a portal and tried to come out of itself and there no where to go, then it's effectively removing the atoms from existence which will create the time space paradox that creates the black hole that sucks the whole world in and destroys all life.
