Read alot of Voltaires work (translated), brilliant.

Alot of very good philosphes/writters appeard around that time of the Enlightenment Rousseau, Montesquieu and to a lesser degree Hobbes and Locke. It was these people that came up with the idea of government as a social contract, the Seperation of Powers.

The French have done alot for this world, far more than they are given credit for.

I'll say this much don't even try to read all them government laws book to many of them. some are really funny to catch a eye of, sample in calif a women rights group got a law pass the ladys can walk around as they please topless in public areas don't see any doing it ehehe.

Hi Chief!

So a law has been passed in California that allows women to walk around topless if they so choose. I thought they could do that anyway?

Of course the Romans and Greeks gave us a great heritage and laws that have lasted into the modern world but I always feel a litle uncomfortable about praising the Roman Empire to much given that it was an Empire built on slavery and conquest.

I suppose you could say that of all Empires through out history when you stop and think about it.
