New website for work..

Sadly it's not tghq but it's what i've been working on at work since last fall. The company I work for sells fasteners (nails and screws) and mainly provide this website so that our distributors can help their customers select the proper fasteners. The goal of the site was simple: Big fonts, big pictures and clean pages.

http://www.bandceagle.com

All the line art, vector art, photos and graphics were done by me.. What do you think?

Scott, you already try .net? PHP is great and stuff, but it takes so much longer to do anything and has little or no debugging tools.

I work for a city and do their site, we use .net with their awesome query tool called Linq. It makes DB interaction way easier.

The site looks great BTW, the selector part must have taken the most time?

I have played around with it a bit but I guess I just prefer php for quick development. When I get some more time I will start playing around with .net again as I really did like the language. I'm really interested in learning some ruby or java too. Theres just not enough time...

Getting the ajax and all the css to work with every browser took alot of time. I completely disregarded IE6 and Firefox below v3. If you visit the site in IE6 you get a nice message asking you to upgrade browsers.

Yeah, IE six is a pain in the butt. Luckily I only have to support IE 7+

I would look into .net MVC web applications. It is a great way for having an organized folder/file structure with object oriented programming. It separates the site into three categories: Model, View, Controller ... that way it is easier to keep static content separate from dynamic.

Anywho, I recommended it because I was building this basic site for someone and it took me a few hours in PHP. If I had done it in .net it would have taken probably 45 minutes.

The problem with .net is finding a good host, most people have their own dedicated servers for it. I have also never messed with connecting to mySQL either; we do purely SQL Server.
