You can still add toolbar pop up menus the old way. Right click Taskbar - Toolbars> New Toolbar and link it to your shortcut folder

Still don't understand the point in implementing the Quick Launch in Windows 7. The new pinning feature on the task bar does that for you.

not really as many can be pinning! the task area be over flowing
one or 3 maybe or even 10-20 item be pinned to it but over that many will it will it be loaded a lot. i have three items pinned to it, and the Quick Launch folder can be loaded with a lot more 25-1000 more items in it. feel batter for me it works as seen here [click-on image to enlarge it] can you see me pin them all to the task-bar area? one click away i can get to them

what's the difference between this and the start menu?

Uses less resources

i put item into it i mainly use all the time
without searching or going though item to locate item i need to use 2 click away for me after the folder made! i place shortcut into it they show-up in Quick Launch (personnel shortcut folder) the folder can be name anything you like! i guess its on how one feel plus i never gave it any thought but you could make one for all your games shortcut go into as will

by adding something? if you had said it's easier to get to what you wanted that's great but i'm interested in what kind of large resource the start menu uses
i used to use quick launch, i guess i just have less stuff installed these days plus most stuff i launch is through steam you guys ever used something like this before? : http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/ |

Try putting a large directory of shortcuts on the start menu, then when windows starts watch added time and also note sluggish start menu.
reasons many, mainly system links to things like jump lists and extensive memory of recent programs and opened documents etc... |

Fences is OK but needs work, it is also a resource hog
also any great amount of desktop shortcuts also tend to slow start up |

It's so much easier to use the windows key + type a few chars of the program + enter. More room for open programs and less chance of clicking an unwanted program by mistake.
My taskbar only has Chrome and Notepad. My installed programs list is also really small now days. KeePass TrueCrypt AnyDVD DVD Shrink CCleaner Crimson Editor FileZilla VLC Video Microsoft Office Google Chrome (includes flash and pdf viewer) Microsoft Security Essentials PDF Sam PDF995 Adobe Photoshop Adobe Illustrator WinRAR I can't remember the last time I downloaded a new program and/or driver. My computer has been running like new since early 2009
