Fps?????

Does anyone know if there is any software/tool that lets u see your Frames Per Second , to reference while playing a game ?? have been having some issues while playing online , and my connection is 1500dn/1024up DSL , and my machine is a AMD Athlon XP 3000+ ,with 1gGHz DDr ram and a FX5200 256mb video card , everything in my system is less than 6 months old
i have all non nessessary services shut off,the only thing running is my volume control and clock in the taskbar ,and im not running any voice or chat programs while this is happening and no other programs running in the background
i shouldnt be getting any lag , but when i play online , i get serious lag , to the point where everything is warping (this is in Nova servers , not public) that im having this problem(Joint Operations Tech beta ,and Beta Demo), both lag real bad, it also happens while playing Far Cry online , any ideas????????

that 5200 isn't the best of cards.. specially for your CPU.. u have a fast cpu.. but that video card is ur bottleneck.. you'll want at least a Radeon 9600pro 128mb.. that 5200 is only a tiny bit faster then the Gf4 mx440. neither of which are strong enough to power the latest games very good..

I have a TI 4200 128 mb(my old card) , do u think that one is better than the FX 5200 256 (the one im using now), the 128 seems to have the same or better numbers,
GPU NVIDIA® GeForce4™ Ti 4200

>> Bus Type AGP
>> Memory 128MB DDR
>> Core Clock 250MHz
>> Memory Clock 444MHz
>> RAMDAC Dual 350MHz
>> API Support Microsoft® DirectX®, Open GL ICD® L for Microsoft® Windows®
>> Connectors VGA, DVI, S-Video-Out
>> 1.03 trillion operations/sec.
>> 113 million vertices/sec setup
>> 7.1GB/second memory bandwidth

GPU NVIDIA® GeForce™ FX 5200

>> Bus Type AGP
>> Memory 256MB DDR
>> *Core Clock 280MHz (vs. standard 250MHz)
>> RAMDAC Dual 350MHz
>> API Support Microsoft® DirectX®, OpenGL for Microsoft® Windows®
>> Connectors VGA, S-Video out
>> 70 million vertices/sec.

and i really didnt notice any difference in play after switching cards ,and im running the 256 on low on everything and i still get serious lag
, i want a 6800 Nvidia , but they are not out yet , i was also thinking about a FX 5950 ultra , im not really fond of ATI , so i would rather stick with Nvidia ,and my motherboard has a Nvidia based chipset , so i kind of want to keep everything the same , but i wouldnt think that the video card would make my CPU jump 30deg while playing, as that is when i notice the lag , as soon as my CPU temp reaches 128-130deg .the lag starts , but it never used to run that hot

I am going to order a "Volcano" cpu cooler ,as i am using the one that came from AMD with the CPU, and i dont think its doing as good a job as it should , and i have made sure im getting clear airflow thru my case ,and sitting here doing nothing its running at 113degF , the board temp is only 98degF , which is where the cpu used to run(within a few degrees of the board temp) but as soon as i play anything ,the cpu jumps 30degF
