bigger map upload size

why can't the upload size for DFX maps be at least 1MB?

if you'r a mapper like me you like to add upload graphics to your load screen with info about the mission on it so the player can read the briefing on the mission while it loads. but doing so takes up alot of space so I have to make the load screen smaller. and what the game does is it stretches the graphic over the load screen and blurs it so that you cant read the text info about the mission. and this sucks!!!!!!

if I had more space for upload I would have to wory about how big it is or if people will be able to read it.

Please allow at least 1MB of upload for maps insted of 400KB.

thank you.

2MB may be more then enough for some mappers but I just got my graphic done today and even after it was ziped it was over 900 KB. and that's not inclunding the 300 KB files for my map. so I don't know if 1 MB would be enough. I'm no big computer know-it-all so I don't know just how many KB's are in a MB??? any1 know?

thanks. I have another buddy of mine (Dave61) who will love this option to have 1MB of upload.

nuts. not sure if that'll cut it. I'll have to put it all together zip up the map and see what the total is. hopfully I won't have to resize the image to make the total size smaller. it took me 4ever to make that loadscreen and the only programs I had to make it with was GIMP IrFanView and the pain't program. LOL. so I want it to look as good as posable.

I think 1MB is more then enough for uploading maps. Why are the load screens sizes so big?

I don't know why the loadscreens areso big......

I DON'T want to resize it to make it smaller. it took me 4ever to make this one, simple, friggin' graphic due to the lack of tools and it's going to look like crap if it's in a difrent res. and pluss for some odd reason when you use a small graphic for a load screen it stretches the load info across the screen over the graphic and over the mission briefing. it sucks out loud!!!!

and plus on some of my maps I was wanting to include a .mis file for the map but it would use alot more space.

What type of image file does the loading screen require?

I believe it's .pcx Scott, as it was for BHD.

If you're talking DFX, I never knew you could do loading screens for them...

Yep it has to be in PCX format also for DFX. the amage file was 2 MB but after comverting it to PCX it brought it down to alittle over 1 MB and then after ziping it (without the maps files) it only brought it down to 970 KB.

you know what I think it'll work. I decided to leave out the .mis file for the map and I was suprized to see it brought the total map files down to 47 KB!!!!!!!!

I figured it would be alot more. cuz the map is loaded with almost 60 waypoints, I have reached the limit of how many bots you can have (250) and I have reached my building/decoration limit (1200).

and I'm still not done with the map. so I might be able to fit it. it's just us mappers don't like limiting our map files based on the sites limits.

just out of interest, what is the biggest zip file you have?

"just out of interest, what is the biggest zip file you have?"

you mean for maps?

the biggest map I have ever made was 487 KB and that was after resizing the image untill it looked like scrap. so in order to fit it on the site I had to delete a few events and stuff which suprized me that it brought the size down alittle. but still I ended up leaving out the mis file.

I didn't want to upload the .mis file for my new map anyway. it's a singleplayer map and it's a layout I found (after expirementing over and over) to be the most action packed map I've ever made and I didn't want anyone to see my layout and take my ideas so I decided to just leave out the mis file. I guess it wouldn't matter now they have a BMS2MIS converter for DFX. oh well......

"also what happens if the pcx image, is a different format?"

if the image is in a difrent format it simply won't show up on the loadscreen. what you do is you take any ghraphic you want, convert it to PCX (I use a program called IrFanView), rename the PCX image to the EXACT name of your mission and put it in your DFX directory.
