adjusted size so it wasnt stupid big

all pics taken on full settings, 3d resolution is on 100% (too laggy at 200% (max)), the AA and lighting settings are a bit buggy, you can force AA on in the config but aparently it turns shadows off, also i turned off the HDR blur and bloom effects.

chopper from the stupidly hard training mission

bit of grass n stuff

sniper in the grass, but same situation as every other game, the grass had a draw distance, so lying in the grass is not so smart. trees/bushes much better

smokin' truck that i hit with my ridiculously large rocket launcher (see next post)

ARMA 2 noobs with guns 2, death by tank (720 HD) TGHQ

Little bit of action as promised, short clip but means filesize is low and i dont have to spend an hour uploading, SAW in action, tbh all i did was attract attention and a bloody big tank, but hey letting rip with a full belt was fun, incidentally i hit one target only, even though that treeline was full of bad dudes. At about :20 you can see a red blob, when a target is identified then they show as red blobs maybe becasue we're playing on noob setting? Notice the call at :28 "got the tank" which was promply retracted at :46 lol! great sound effect when the shells land.

i bought it on steam and had it download while i was out at the local fair. As soon as i came home and sat down, it was already finishing up on 100%, great timing huh?

ok, so I was checking out the video settings. Just so everyone else knows (besides steve i bet he got this figured out ) there are 2 separate resolution settings. Your screen resolution, and 3d resolution. Now at first it puzzled me what it does, So i left the screen resolution at my moniters native, and then messed with the 3d resolution a bit.

I liked the idea behind it, whoever's idea to have two separate resolutions is a ****ing genius. turning the 3d resolution lower than the screen resolution gives the illusion of anti-aliasing in its own way. And turning the 3d resolution higher than the screen resolution gives a different illusion of anti-aliasing. Its almost like AA is redundant now, its not needed anymore. It's kinda hard to explain all this in words, and taking screenshots of standstill images wont show what im explaining a whole lot either. you'll see a major difference in moving images after tinkering with it.

That sounds pretty genius, yeah. UT3 has something (similar, maybe?) too with resolution and screen percentage.

So basically if my resolution was 1280 x 1024, and I had my 3D resolution on 800 x 600, would it stretch that up to 1280 x 1024, giving the impression it's a much bigger resolution?

* Edit:

Quote:
Interface resolution is what the 2D graphics are rendered at. 3D resolution is what the actual game is rendered at.

These can set so you have a higher resolution 2D display with greater sharpness of text messages and onscreen icons, while rendering the more demanding 3D graphics at a lower resolution behind the 2D overlays.
Ahh, that's what it is. Actually, World of Warcraft has a UI resolution too, so that's awesome. It kinda gave the impression the resolution was bigger since you could make the UI small as heck. :P

Yea, its exactly like UT3's screen percentage, Dead on. In fact each 3d resolution item has a percentage written next to them; screen percentage. Now imagine going above 100%, it looks amazing.

Damn I so wanna try ArmA 2, hehe.

Just tried out UT3 demo on full settings with 50% screen size and it somewhat improved performance. Would like to see what ArmA 2 would be able to do as for 2D/3D resolution to compensate for the 8400. :P

improved image quality??
if their system was suitable they wouldn't of added AA support to the game within a week of release

ok steve, with a little bit of research and side by side comparison, we can probably figure up that a high 3d resolution makes AA kind of redundant.

Like, I play with a 2d-1920x1200, and 3d-2400xwhatever, its at 125%

my AA isnt actually off, its just on low. I can honestly say its pretty sweet, and challenges crysis on every graphical level. I dont think i'll need AA, if I just happened to get a better gfx card, im upping the resolutions not the AA.

for sure it produces a great image but it costs some framerate. i'd say it would make it redundant if it produced a better image without needing more power, which isn't true.

i'd be interested to see a chart that compaires what percentage = equivalent level off AA.

i completely agree that the image looks outstanding at a higher res (175% / 200%), but it's definately unplayable for me, whereas setting AA to high is playable and looks great.

i'll check it out some more
