dude THE TERM IS A STANDARD TERM THAT IS AN INDUSTRY STANDARD.
and you cant change it...gold is when and ONLY when the software is
at RTM...Release To Manufactureing...i dislike idiots that talk tech and dont
know what they are saying by misapplying terms and other tech talk and advertisers who misapply tech terms trying to sell a product and the tech term used is like an O.J. glove...

Sam, he's right - listen to him.

Quote:
The term "release to manufacturing" or "release to marketing" (both abbreviated RTM)—also known as "going gold"—is used to indicate that the software has met a defined quality level and is ready for mass distribution either by electronic means or by physical media.
To put it simply:

Release to manufacturing (RTM) = Gold (going gold)

Or if we wanted to do it mathematically:

r = g

Therefore, Windows 7 RTM = gold.

To show Wikipedia isn't crapping:

http://www.google.co.nz/search?q=win...ient=firefox-a

Yes, bigsmellyfart said it went gold in August - if we round July 22 to the nearest 10, that'd bring us pretty damn close (if not on) August.

"Going gold for retail" is confusing - just say release date.

No it isn't! Stop trying to somehow cover up that you're incorrect. There's a BIG difference:

Okay, read this:

Quote:
The term "release to manufacturing" or "release to marketing" (both abbreviated RTM)—also known as "going gold"—is used to indicate that the software has met a defined quality level and is ready for mass distribution either by electronic means or by physical media. RTM usually does not mean the software is actually released; it would in most cases mean that the software is being released to manufacturers, for pre-installation on ready machines, or for the manufacturer to adjust the software for their manufactured hardware and settings.
To simply if it for you, it means that "gold" ("RTM", "going gold", "going for gold", "going to get gold from the bank", "goldilocks"), is to show that software, has met a GOOD quality level, and is READY to be released. There is a difference between "OMG it's released to everyone!!!" and "OMG it's good enough for release!!!"

If you still don't understand, I'll make it simpler.

Is getting ready to do something, and actually doing it the same thing? No, it isn't.

So stop being ignorant and read the facts.
