Darkest Enviroment file?

Just wondering what the darkest enviroment file you guys think is. Or if its even possible to get near pitch black conditions in dfx?

Fog Color: 0 0 0
Fog Distance: 0

again, would work... but theres two problems with that,
one: dfx (for whatever reason) doesnt let me use colored fog, otherwise i'dve had a lime green colored map by now...
two: doensnt do anything for the lighting, i want it to be so if your not near a light source, you need to use those otherwise useless night vision.

i don't wanna resort to simply having very thick dark fog...

I think you can use a wac file to set fog color. not sure about that. but you can always do your own environment.

heres a quick tutorial on that at my squad site: quick & easy env tut for Barra.

I believe you can copy the one Bull posted into notepad and mod that.

you totally lost me?

open the dfxmed> edit> "General information" click-on that item bring up the manul below:

its right there unless you using Nile? were i am clueless in that,

never like it from the start

enviroment file deal with the sky weather look cloudy to stormy weather look to clear skys or even night time full moon.

there are many to pick from.

here a tool to pick the one you like its ad-ware every time you use it dang thing like to connect to the maker web site.

Terrain Reference Tool
details: This tool will allow you to view terrains and environments without loading them into the game first. It saves alot of time when trying to pick the perfect environment or terrain for that perfect map!

tool link: http://www.novahq.net/?show=utilitie...et_file&id=332

i like using it but man it can bug me (meddle of making a map up) when it like to go to the site i use internet options to block it from the web site (URL) i added in the url address to block it from loading up, and set the firewall as will to block it. thats the only thing that bug me about it....

nooo... i mean ever since i installed dfx it never let me edit fog color, i know this isnt just me as i know a few of other people that have the same prob. And thanks for the WAC, but once again, im not lookin to change the fog color. im trying to get the lighting as dark as possible. and as far as i know (unless im wrong, in that case i apologize) the only way to change lighting in dfx is to change the enviroment file / start time. im not looking to change the fog color, because ive never seen fog to influence the lighting in a map. (and yes, im using the MED) sorry if i missled anyone in previous posts, but thats just what im looking for...

edit: i *ahem* "solved" the problem... just ignored it and gave up on making this map during the night.

Have you seen a DFX map with coloured fog? If so, then somehow putting the coloured fog in is possible and you should ask the creator how he/she did it. If there's no map whatsoever with coloured fog in it, then what it says in the General Information window about the fog settings and all must be a leftover from a previous MED, such as the DFBHD one.

GL with getting coloured fog in ya map.

I am pretty sure on some of the maps I made I have one with fog. I use the DFXMED.
make sure you put in how much fog and to check the fog box.

EDITED: BTW every IC or combat map (by Nova) in DFX has fog in it, just a FYI.

This is how you do it

Code:
colorfade(#) //seconds for color to transition (zero is normal)
sun(#,#,#) //sets sun rgb ENV override
sky(#,#,#) //sets sky rgb
ground(#,#,#) //sets ground rgb
ceiling(#,#,#) //sets ceiling rgb
floor(#,#,#) //sets floor rgb (inside ground)
lightning(#,#,#) //sets the color of the lightning
cloud(#,#,#) //sets the cloud color

gain(#,#,#) //sets the brightness of the whole scene

fogcolor(#,#,#) //set fogcolor to R,G,B, changes at color fade rate
fog(#,#,#) //same as fogcolor
skyfogcolor(#,#,#) //set skyfogcolor to R,G,B
skyfog(#,#,#) //same as skyfogcolor
fogtype(#) //set fog type 0=fog, 1=haze, 2=haze wall, 3=fog wall
fogdist(#) //sets fogdist to # meters
movefog(#,#) //move fogdist to # meters over # seconds
skyspeed(#) //sets the sky movement speed
skyheight(#) //sets the height of the sky
This is all the wac commands for environmental overide, i spaced out the one you want. and yes you can make a whole complete environment file using these wac scripts. yes you can virtualy make ANY environment.

heres the wac command to make a very dark map:

Code:
if never() then
gain(0,0,0)
endif
Add that to your maps .wac file and let us know how it worked.

all fog ive ever seen in a dfx map has been changed by the enviroment file. don't believe me? mess around with them. if however, your able to get lime green fog (or some other un-natuaral color that one wouldnt be able to create with enviroment files) then some one say something. because all i see at this point is people saying "just make the fog black"

*sigh* now im actually curious how many of you who replied actually own dfx. i got the feeling that not all of ya do

Ok tested the wac script, it does not work. some of them do but the results are odd. I am not going to play around with them because i am satisfied with what i have and dont need something else. I know how to make my own environments.

No fog color does not work. change all anyone wishes and the results will be the same(grey). so FOG is not the answer!

Now go up to my first post and read what I wrote! Make your own environment! here is the Darkest you can get and it took me 3 minutes to do and that includes making a test map and entering it! BLACK.ENV

Just add that with your map and you are done, you have the DARKEST possible environment. YES it is pitch black. read the link i posted and tinker with the environment. Use what i have for a download as a template. all info in this part 0,0,0 is RGB values, so 0,0,0 is black, white is 255,255,255, red is 255,0,0, green is 0,255,0, blue is 0,0,255. If thats not easy enough use the Fog Color Picker and choose your colors.

You dont need to do anything special with it. this does not need to be packed into a .pff, no need for a mod, All mapmakers can include custom environments with there maps.

Simple enough?

*edit
The red text are links.

lol the wac info i culled that from is posted someplace here at NovaHQ, though i did quote it at my site for easy referance. maybe i should hunt it up and report it, saying please sticky this if its not a sticky already.

yes the .env needs to be with the map for download, otherwise anyone playing it will either get an error or get the default .env. so since it doesnt need to be packed it could be included with the map just like a .wac or a .bin file. gives mappers even greater options for there mapping.
