DVD drive issues.
My pc's dvd drive has gone wonky. Whenever i insert a blank disk, it says that the format of the disk is unreadable or is corrupt, whereas the disk is brand new Sony CD. Also, when i insert an audio disk, it does not autoplay and the contents of the disk is read in .cda format, where it should be .wav, the file size is shown as 44 Bytes, and only media player classic can play those files, but not as a playlist. I have tried to clean the drive with the help of cd drive cleaning disk, but to no avail.

you could try to run: chkdsk /f
works in windows xp and 7 or go to the drive property select tools then select error-checker or scan disk reboot system maybe there error in there after should be fix, if not could be hardware then like scott post above

a blank disk would say it's unreadable, if you burn something to it, it will become readable.
autoplay may have been disabled, maybe you uncheked a box when it asked a while ago. iirc in MPC autoplay is disabled, turn it on here: the files would only be .wav if you or someone else made them wav, cd audio just uses the cda file as a link to the data on the disc rather than being the actual sound itself. mayeb this was an early attempt to stop people just compying the data straight off a cd / piracy? |

And if a disk of wave files shows as CDA files it's a copy of wave files burned with windows Media player
