clans....

ok i don't know if its just me, or is it if you have been in alot of clan you get tired of them. i think its just a stage in gaming where you think you most be in a clan, what you think? i think i would still like clans if i get recruited into a dedicated one

alot of gamers go through the "i want to set up a clan" stage and design something on freewebs with a .tk domain and an invisionfreee forum. Most dont last a month.

IMO you can usually pick a dedicated clan by 4 things

1. Domain name - I maintain a sucessful clan needs its own TLD (.com .net) or CCTLD domain to have a chance, that or a novahq.net subdomain (http://www.novahq.net/?show=subdomains)
2. Hosting - Paid hosting indicates a level of commitment, i dont know of a clan that was sucessful with freewebs...
3. Name - Clans with names like "The Axe Throwing Killers" dont tend to work. You know the type, you go to their site and the entrance page is a gothic grim reaper or something.
4. Forum Community - usually gives you a great picture of the type of squad they are.

Only reason im in a clan is because i was involved in making a mod with them a few years ago and just stuck around, i dont play games or anything. Its the only squad ive ever been in...

my clan is "The Axe Throwing 1337 n00b Killers!!11!" ... oh hang on...

*aheem* anyway

i guess you need to figure out what you want yourself. Do you like playing competitively, want to play with ppl you know, go to LAN parties etc

i've been in 2 clans, one for 3 years and now one for just over a year. I love the benefits of being in a clan rather then playing with myself (so to speak ).

i was invited to join by both clans, and i played with them and got to know them before joining. it's a big difference than just finding a team i don't know and going for tryouts.

benefits of clan over being squadless IMO:

# a paid server that is fast and relaible that you can admin

# more than just a few mindless hours online each night
i.e. we actually know each other due to having LAN parties (every few months) which mostly involves drinking, eating, filesharing and a little gaming (and some paintballing ).

# teamspeak - for organised chaos

it just makes it a lot more involving and interactive, and I got some real life friends out of it to i guess it's a case of finding the right clan :/

fyi both clans are made up of more mature gamers, from around 20 - 40+. they are all kids at heart and squabble sometimes (stubborness) but they do have a bit more sense than younger guys acting uber leet - you know the point i'm making here. the result is a more stable group, that has money to pay for web hosting and gameservers and will travel to meet up.

Well, The contacts all over the world I've made just by joining a clan are interesting. Its put me intouch with people in 3 other continents, and we have had a lot of fun playing LW, TFD, BHD together.
Judging a clan by the website they use doesnt make much sense, as there is more to the relationships between the friends there than just programming ability.
Essentially I feel clans just broaden the gaming experience, and when you need a break you just play solo a bit....

I'd have to agree there. I've met some very crazy Canucks, Dutch, Germans, Russians, British, Australians, South Americans via squad play. I wouldn't trade it for the world.

BTW, you British talk funny
