Chrysler shuts down all production 30 plants

Quote:
Close of business Friday will be the start of a monthlong closure of 30 U.S. plants. Company cites 'continued lack of consumer credit

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Chrysler LLC announced late Wednesday that it is stopping all vehicle production in the United States for at least a month.

All 30 of the carmaker's plants will close after the last shift on Friday, and employees will not be asked to return to work before Jan. 19.

Chrysler blamed the "continued lack of consumer credit for the American car buyer" for the slow-down in sales that forced the move.

The company ordinarily shuts down operations between Dec. 24 and Jan. 5. This closure would add roughly two weeks to that shutdown.

Chrysler is the third of the Big Three automakers to suspend operations for January. Last week, General Motors announced it was idling 30% of its North American manufacturing capacity during the first quarter of 2009 in response to deteriorating market conditions. That move will take 250,000 vehicles out of production. On Wednesday, a Ford spokeswoman confirmed for CNN that the automaker is adding a week to its normal two-week seasonal shutdown at a number of its plants.

In all honesty, its the car companys own fault. They obviously are not taking any steps to better the company...I loved the idea of the car czar...these companies are still making loads of money.

Only sad thing is if jobs get permanetly lost.

I don't understand how the big three are falling apart..but Honda, Toyota, and Volkswagen are doing amazingly...frigging learn something!!!

The reason they are failing is because everyone knows they make CRAPPY CARS and then they try to charge the same prices as manufacturers like Toyota and Honda (who actually make cars that last a long time).

If thats one of those stupid challenges where people try and wreck their cars or somthing that involves smashing **** up with a car.... then how many ordinary people actually do that?

So by saying 'this car can do it, but that can't'... is a really pointless test.

Caliber < Camry or Avalon

so what Honda can compete with the Dodge Viper? ha

what Honda can top out over 200 mph stock?

Dodge Vipers top speed: 203 mph (327 km/h)

but i won't lie and say that the Dodge Viper is the best in the world because some of them Euro cars are pretty fast lol

All I know is that Ford can't be driven in Sweden because they will be a phile of rust within one year, don't know about chrysler however. But that's probebly one reason to why pretty much every brand of cars are tested in Sweden before manufacuring, well besides for perhaps sportscars.

The Swedish climate is extreemly though on cars

There's so many ins and outs between imports, rice, and american...

I'm sorry but my father has went through three ford F150's, his current has 235,000 miles on it...I personally love fords and I have a 2003 explorer with 43k on it and the only problems I've had was flat tires and I left my lights on once...anyone that says american cars don't last are retards...

The foreign car market makes driving new much more afforadble..the new civics, vw rabbits and jettas, sentras and maximas scions (from toyota) corollas...they are all decent cars that you can get under 21 grand... VW Tiguans are 26!!! And one of the nicer crossovers like the rogue...

That's the american cars downfall...they're not cheap...

My dream car is a evo 9 MR...but I love fords...

Ya know what? I don't really care anymore! I've never owned a Foreign Vehicle and I've driven mainly Fords all my life. Ford Motor Credit should have kept me as a Credit Holder.
