what's the size of your forums 50 members? surely those features are nice to have. but for a medium, small size community invision will do just fine. especially clan websites...

im using xmb, its ok. but so far no problems... right now we have like 10, but still growing... and now theres like 20 posts in just 2 days, so it will grow quick...

Umm... Invision board is pretty much just as good and the older version is free the new one costs but not as much Templates are way way easy to make too.

could always have someone code a forum for you or code it yourself.. lol It would be nice to have a clan/squad based forum package out there.

dude gimme a yell and i'll help ya..... PHPBB is cake. don't know what you are doing but if you are following the simple instructions it should work.....


some hints...
1. start with a completely empy database.
2. once it's up and running initially do a backup of the database. that way you don't have to completely reinstall after you fuxor it.
3. when adding mods in or anything of the sort always always always make a backup of the any of the files that you change and save them to your local drive. this way if something doesn't work you can easily rollback the board to the way it was.
4. always always always RTFM for the mods. i can't stress that enough
5. if you have access to more than one database on your host set up a test site that you can use to test install mods and whatnot. this way you don't hose your main board.

I've never had problems with phpbb. Even the newer ones. All our squad forums are phpbb. Don't use the one from cpanel, download it directly from phpbb.com. You shout not have any problems with installing. Also follow Liquids suggestions. I think this is my second choise for forums.. The acp needs some work though.. Some needed things are missing or just aren't advanced enough..

Invision board is great.. but waht sucks about it is the inability to custom skin it. I mean, make your OWN skin, not download one. It takes a long time.. That's what I didn't like about it. Also when you get the skin untraing it from the server with invision etc etc what a mess sometimes .

XMB is one it way to be good, but I could code it so it's not that great. I've fixed so many bugs with my xmb forum at phphq.net it's not funny.. It needs alot of work. There are far to many security issues with it.

vbulletin is still the best.. but $180 is still expensive.. Like G.I Goe said, if you got a big community, vb is the way to go.

PHPBB is the easiest bulliten board out there that loks good, I like it because it is easier to cusomize than INV

Use an Invision 1.3 final its free in the beta area u just dont get any tech support and it says 1.3 Final(U) at the bottom

invisionboard is free on my cpanel but i use the latest phpbb forum. its one of the best forums, ive never had a problem with it yet

yeah i've seen those webwiz forums......pretty cheap looking if you ask me, but that's just my opinion.
