you could spend 1000 pretty quick when it comes to bulding a computer...

and motherboards dont do much in terms of performance ... if you want a better gaming experience your gona need a better cpu, a motherboard with the corrisponding socket for the CPU, a better video card .. some new ones use pci express 16x .. so look for that when you shop for a motherbaord too .. and ram ..

They have a pretty decent impact on performance and stability.. I tested this myself by putting an ASRock (Budget board) into my second computer in place of my abit AN8 ultra with all the same parts except the mother board.. It wasn't that much slower, but it was.. I could defiantly see the difference in loading applications.. I don't think the most expensive is necessary, but a nice board is never a bad thing to have. The ASRock is stable as a rock tho ..
