In the fall, we used to have those old fashioned Steam-trains travel through our area years ago. It would make stops at old train stations picking up people who would just want to ride the rails and see the sights. I never rode one, but it was a pleasure just to see and hear it. Man, the steam/ash exhaust seemed like it it rose forever into the sky and that sound of the steam whistle would bring chills to me.
Ah what memories that brings back !

I imagine you had a great time Silent !

You better make the most of it.....with carbon credits just around the corner, no rail club can afford to buy credits and run the train.
Sil may make the most of his excavatuer experience in Russian or Canadian forests...lol

I love the choo choo sound!

So did my two year old nephew also, he made a choo choo sound the whole trip and smiled like the sun whenever the train made the same sound

Carbon Credits ?

Man, they're at least 3 coal fired steam plants in a 50 mile radius from where I live. I've been breathing coal ash and fishing in it for 40 years.

Now we have at least 2 Nuclear Reactor steam plants in a 70 mile radius.

Which is worse?

Where I live there's one called the Heber Creeper but... it seems they don't use the steam powered one much any more, they use a diesel-electric train.

Super expensive to ride too...

I was trained as a Boiler Engineer but never set foot on a Steam Loco footplate Sigh!
Other boiler systems are now fully automated, that trade has followed the way of the DoDo.

Should check out the fiasco in Australia at the moment regarding our Carbon Credits Scheme being introduced

..and that Stomp is what Mermite is alluding too!
..seems it's only Australia thats gonna get taxed to death.

Dave it works like this, if you spew stuff(smoke) into the air, like power stations, boilers factories etc etc, to do that means you gotta buy a licence(carbon credit) equal to the amount you pollute with, from a forester, with the money the forester gets from the polluter is supposed to prevent the forester selling the wood, keeping the tree alive to consume the polluted air...or sum'thnig like that

...............ugh!

A false economy.

If many countries get involved, how would you work out the exchange rate for credits between countries?

If it were based on that countries exchange rate or GDP it would fluctuate with the market and local influences, and be vulnerable to the same disastrous consequences of global influences in a market crash.

Your carbon credits would not be a reliable trading source as they are not based on a commodity of any sort, quite the reverse!

I know the US would need alot of those credits, but I guess China could just cancel our National US debt we owe to them in liew of credits.
