-.-

Gentlemen, Im gonna be honest with ya's. I am dissapointed with my new computer. Its locking up up the ass through hell and back.
_________

when I first put it together, i set it up next to my moniter, ran it, sure since no OS was installed and windows vista cd wasnt in the drive it would just go to POST and that would be it.

So i restarted and put my vista in the drive and let it run. Then it would lock up. I reset, and had at it again, it would get slightly farther then lock up. my brother gets the bright idea to dissable the USB ports in the BIOS (no mouse from this point on) and Vista gets even farther, then locks up. once again I reset and Vista completely installs... then locks up. I go over and enable the USB ports again so I can use my mouse...

...I go on ahead and log in, it wants to customise and all that stuff, i click no and dont show me again. I go on ahead and install the motherboard chipset drivers, during the time it wanted to restart, it would go a DOS like command line and say its missing a line of code. I just hit the reset button and it just goes back into vista just fine and finishes installing the chipset drivers just fine...

then I install the VGA drivers just fine, after a good and successful restart I install Crysis, the system locked up attempting to do so. i reset and go on back in and Crysis installs just fine, I download and install the patches just fine. I open up crysis to run just fine. I check the options just to look at them, I was very thankful that it defaulted them all on High, im sure a GTX280 could handle Very High anyway. I begin a new campaign and it plays that video that always plays when you want to start a new campaign. then it gets to the part of the video that shows nomad going into maximum speed... then the system locks up....

so i reset, and try to run crysis again, well when you first start up a game it wants to show the developer's and publisher's logos you know? it got to Cryteks logo and was like "maximum, Ga..." the system locks up...

I get the bright Idea of updating the BIOS to the latest version, IT DOESNT HELP AT ALL!

I download rivatune for my video card and see that the fanspeeds was defaulted at 25% at all times, I change that to fan speed to run at 100% at all times...

IT ACTUALLY HELPS!! I actually made it ingame to see the sheer power of my GTX280, extremely high framerate at 1200x1024 on High settings... then the system locks up...

well im honestly all out of ideas to try and fix this thing, do any of you guys have suggestions?

lol, i try to edit my forum post and... the system locks up

the boot time is suprisingly fast, from power off to being able to log in takes less than 20 seconds. Velocirapter 300gb 10k RPM for the win!

there is something going with your hardware, i don't think it the video card, more like something other.

if you can get to event view log you can look up application's or system log there you see error reports listed that may show why system is locking up.

sorry don't know about vista i think Scott has it. he or other maybe able to point you to event logs reports

Sounds like hardware conflict.

Do you see what the IRQ's are?

person i think it was a bad install of windows vista you may have to redo it over again.

if there a option to so you don't have to install driver for hardware like you have a newer driver/software save on a CD for your video, you should be able to concel it and go on to the next step of install. reseting it as it install can make things really bad

I'd try these guys: http://www.techsupportforum.com/

They know a lot more than I do. I honestly have barely even touched vista.

I had Rivatune moniter the GPU temperature while playing crysis in a window, when the temperature went up to 61 C it locked up.

I rebooted and tried again, this time, when it got up to 60C i would exit the game, it actually made it out without locking up, im not sure if this is a problem with the motherboard at all.

My GTX280 is cooled by its own fan running at 100%, one of my case fans is blowing air directly on it. any suggestions on how else to get it cooler?

heres the PC on my newegg wishlists

I hear that there are a lot of issues with 64 bit vista and video drivers.

Well it was someone from dell and a few other places.

I hear it mostly involves Radeon cards though so that's probably not it.

If you have an XP CD, I'd install it and see if it crashes

there has been no 64-bit driver issues for ages, even before sp1, especially with ATi gfx cards, maybe the only thing left is the x-fi sound cards but even they are fine running beta drivers.

the gpu is not too hot so that's not the prob.
i think it's unlikely to be the gfx drivers if it's crashing during vista install.
i think vista lets you know if an app or driver takes a dump, it would just shut the app/driver down and not the comp... but with it being a new card i just dunno if u can rule it out 100%, unless you see any change from trying different gfx drivers - latest vs. beta

there doesn't really seem any new chipset updates for your board either

everything installed ok in the device manager?
cpu temps?

just go around and reseat every card and cable, it wont do any harm

tried just one stick of ram?

I agree with steve, you might want to reseat everything and test the memory.
Here's a cool diag tool: http://www.memtest86.com/ doubt it is bad memory but some stuff does show up with defects sometimes.
