Favorite Operating System?

vote and why, or why not...

Linux for me but I have to use windows for stuff I use for school and other things, but I like working on my server cuz its nice and stable (more stable than when i had the same server running as windows with apache)

Linux (specifically the Gentoo distro) and windows XP.

Gentoo linux because of it's ease of use in installing software.

use it for my webserver and also on my second desktop computer so that I can better learn linux.

windows XP: The Best windows version yet. use it because i want to, and that I have spent a good sum of money on games and other software that doesn't work on linux :-)

My mom got windows me... didn't hang onto it very long before getting 2000.

I took it and managed to host a lw server on it for a bit... Finally got XP for the server.

Windows ME in my opinion is the worst OS out there.

Now windows XP (w/ SP2) has been nearly perfect for me. I can go 2 to 3 weeks with out a reboot, never turning the computer off.

Boy are computers are fun :-)

Linux by far is the best IMHO. However if you're talking about playing games...it's sad to say but Micro$lut still has that market (though it has come lightyears since the days of RH 5.2). here's what i use currently....

Linux (Mandrake 10.1 on desktop)
Linux (Libranet 2.8.1 on desktop 2)
Win2k (desktop 3)
WinXP/Linux (Laptop)

needless to say windows is used rarely for anything other than playing games unless i'm too lazy to turn my chair to another computer such as right now.

ps
personal current record for win* box without a reboot....33.5 days and counting on win2k SP4. It's my gaming machine and used daily.

I'd use linux but I only have one machine and I have never messed around with Dual booting or tripple booting (Linux, XP and 2000). If I knew how to do it then I probably would.

I just stumbled across this the other day, so I don't know any thing about it, but you could take a look at coLinux. It allows you to run the full linux operating system in windows. From what little I have read, it behaves like any other windows program.

Don't know... I'll try it and let you know.

I do know that you can run linux on practically nothing, if you just want some thing to play around with.

I once had it going on a 75mhz computer with less then 32mb memory.

I'm using Windows XP Home and so far, it's been flawless (well, as flawless as Windows has ever been anyway...). Very few reboots and no crashes. A lockup once in a while. But compared to the 'old days' of Windows right after DOS, this is heaven. And since I use the computer mostly for 'other-than-gaming' stuff, I just plain like the XP.

In fact, until last week when I bought BHD, the ONLY 'game' I ever played on this computer was Flight Simulator, and even that was seldom. Luckily, my computer is new enough to handle the BHD graphics and action.
