the old 60s and 70s trans were the best , the newer ones are basicly boat anchors, to much crap in the motor and drive line design itself, most people will get the biggest cam and injectors they can find and think they can race. a smaller plenilum in an intake will get better response for the air fuel mixture that goes in and if the cam is too big the valves spend too much time open and will cut power. and ya do not i repeate do not need an 800freeking cfm carb on a motor less than a 500CI, 400cfm will usually be plenty, for ya are dumping too much fuel into the engine and it will **** itself if ya gas it. and if the injectors or carburator is too big and the cam is too big and the plenilum (plenilum = opening in the intake) in the intake is too big if ya ever get out and back into it the car will take a dump. and unless ya plan on using race fuel dont get 11:1 pistons for ya cant with these new cars or even with some of the older ones compensate for the fuel and the engine will detonate, use stock type compression pistions but get the forged blower type(the blower type got thicker heads and will stay together better during highend RPM)in the older cars ya can use the distributor to advance or lower the timing making the engine fire sooner or later in the power stroke witch rases or lowers the cylender pressure. contrary to popular belife the direct port fuel injection is a POS design, it is spraying to close to the valves and isnt giving the fuel time to atomise properly witch increases fuel consumption and kills power, the fuel air mixture needs a minium of 5-8 inches (depending on the engine) to allow the fuel to mix properly with the incomeing air and atomise properly. and always use a forged N.I crank (Nodular Iron) it will survive better than 8,000rpm, unless ya are pushing 400+CI then it is lower. ya can have all the horse power in the world but if ya cant get it to the ground then whats the point, spinning the tires is not good for it will screw up ya time off the line and will most of the time lose ya a race, that is why during the topfuel races they do a burnout b4 they race, it is to heat the tires and makem sticky so they slip as little as possable. and ya see all these cars and trucks that have these loooooong pipes and people say they sound good, the truth is too long a pipe can be just as bad as too short a pipe. too short a pipe will make the engine loose too much heat and will kill bottom end and too long of a pipe will over the length of the pipe make the exaust loose some of its excape pressure createing a reverberation pulse that will travel down the pipe and make the engine suck up some of the exaust also killing power, that is what the blaaat or bbbbbbb sound of these loooong pipes is when ya get into it, it is the reverberation pulse, i know it sounds pretty but it kills power , badly. there is what is called a tuned length pipe, usually infront of the back axle but past midway of the doors, and an H-Pipe also helps to equlise the pressure in the pipes makeing it easier to tune them, and slash cutting the pipes at the end helps to eleminate the reverse pulse. ya can make a 241CI motor get twice the HP of these new so called transams for less than 8,000$US verses the 15-20,000$US whith most of these new socalled badass rides. a properly tuned 430CI buick with good rods pistons and crank(bypass the stock oiling system) in a 4,000lbs skylark will see 140+mph in a 1\4mile without really pushing it for less than 10,000$US if set up right. these are just some of the secrets of street racing, i know a lot mor but im not giving it all away, lol. so it all boils down to wether they knew the diffrence between a pistonhead and their sisters tity when they set the car up. |
