You mean download some type of "virtual sound card"? Hmm, I don't think so.

what you have for a sound card

see some time they make updates for the sound card or sound chip on the mother broad as will.

is it?
MOB sound chip MFG of the MOB & MOB Number.
PCI card MFG name and model number of it.

we can check see if there any new software/drivers for it to instill.

i run my on my MOB sound system all the time no trouble there for me. i had to update it for it to run better

well one easy way to fix this problem is take your speaker plug, and plug it in the the motherboard, (those slots are usually stacked vericaly)

then....

click start, controll panel, sounds and audio devices,

click the audio tab, and in the sound playback part, pick your onboard sounds.

for most computers its realtek-somethin otherwise pick different ones until one works

oh man see what we can find.

sad things this is way old sound system you using way out dated.

sadder its Windows Me no longer supported by microsft anymore.
==============================================
look do you have any PCI Slots still open on your Mother Broad to use?
for a Sound Card to install into it? that is your best bit to do.

do you know what the Chip Number is for that mother broad and the name of the mother broad?

search link: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&r...22&btnG=Search

don't know you needed the Hardware profile in your system, you gone beyon the listing but need the unit number

not drivers or codec info, need to know the chip info stock number of it.

is it a dell? Gateway system? IBM System who made the computer?
model number of the computer tower located on the back side on a metal plate or sticker, dell and gateway some times place a stamp on the front of side of the tower

only you can find the chip number
cirrus logic corp link: http://www.cirrus.com/en/support/
listing of chip updates there

my best bet is you go out and buy a more up to day stander sound card PCI type. of today standers.

when you do get it unstall the sound system totally, then turn off (unplug from the wall or tower) the computer then put the sound card PCI card into the MOB, then bootup after you got it,

if it come with a Cd place it into the computer before you turn it off to put the sound card into the MOB, this way when you boot up the system will see the Cd and all the drivers for it.

still run it from desktop to install the software for it as will

» HP Pavilion 7940 Desktop PC (SP)
» HP Pavilion 7940 Desktop PC (UK)
» HP Pavilion 7940 Desktop PC (US/CAN)

Source: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Looku...x=6&submit.y=4

there are newer updates very 2001-2004 for your system
U.S.A. Link: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=58464&lang=en

don't see any sound system drivers still looking
================================
think this is the one you need.
* Multimedia Keyboard Driver Update it cover media input

basic you should use all the updates there for your system, this way it run smoother as will. bois & media driver

bois tell the system how to handle com and drivers and sounds drivers as will other things.

only use what you need not all system they made have items in them. specialy you added a video card to it so you would not need the video chip driver update for that and soo on

some time update older version then follow through till you install the update for all 3 of them bois update till your last one should be the newer one.

you should be able to use the arrow keys and enter key.

Arrow keys up & down for selecting
Enter to select the item to use
Esc Exit out
