Does anyone understand Novalogic?
There are almost Twenty Thousand downloads from this site alone for name editors for the various Delta Force games.
Joint Ops Typhoon rising allows only 16 characters and only about 4 non alphabet/number characters. I am interested to know what it is that goes on in Novalogic meetings. I know this isn't a bug because if you try to rename a character in JO you get an error message that must have been written by someone who was under instruction to program the error message. [1stHssr]Witchsmeller [CoUK]Zza1pqx© and my old clan tag Zza1pqx©*ƒ or even Zza1pqx©*f are now illegal names in Joint Ops. Given that the bloody game comes with ZERO single player options worth bothering with (this isn't made clear on the box either), and therefore given that Nova expect people to be playing online, what in GODS name are they thingking to make it near impossible to ID yourself with a unique squad tag? Is the tag line 'Offical Novaworld Squad' just a joke now? Seems it to me. There is a team of people who miss their own point working on games this community pay good money for. Inane. |

you only can use:
1.) a-z "Lower case" 2.) A-Z "Upper case" 3.) - 4.) 0-9 5.) . 6.) _ 7.) 1 or 2 Space'e (using the space-bar) thats it been that way from Jan, 2004 there maybe some other stander characters you can use but most part no hex characters can be use. 1.) [1stHssr]Witchsmeller can not use: [ ] 2.) [CoUK]Zza1pqx© can not use: []© 3.) Zza1pqx©*ƒ can not use: ©*ƒ 4.) Zza1pqx©*f can not use: ©* it the same way as you go into a bank and fill out a forum address, name, country you don't use hex-characters in it. so nova updated their rule on making name for players with only stander characters to be use for players name. Squad tag will the days of by pass log-in is dead now, and most squads change over their tags & player name is locked meaning when you make a name up its yours. there will not be any copy cat of it. Remark: avehay aay reatgay imetay layingpay OTRJay uygay ndaay oodgay ucklay otay ouyay niay t.iay yacay ouyay niay eathlandday 1.) [1stHssr]Witchsmeller ancay otnay seuay: [ ] 2.) [CoUK]Zza1pqx© ancay otnay seuay: []© 3.) Zza1pqx©*ƒ ancay otnay seuay: ©*ƒ 4.) Zza1pqx©*f ancay otnay seuay: ©*

Hey Chief thanks for the information, I am certain all companies that deal in the 'pretending you are a soldier' industry will soon take up the only truth that is out there, that of banking bureaucracy
I have been aware of this for a while but it is only now that I own JO do I realise how idiotic it is. Where is the need? I know why, but why is this the only way to go about it? They have done what it takes to make thier lives easier, NOT what it takes to make the customers enjoyment better. Chief do NOT start wobbling on about cheats either I have had my fill of your opinion on that over the past 3 years. Someone tell me why Nova does things like this to us? You cant have the names you want. We'll put in vehicles but we won't be bothering to add any actual vehicle physics. We'll stagger release of new games across the globe so international clans have to be put on hold for a month. But we sure as hell WONT be banging out a game that is finished. Sheesh. |

i agree its not consumer friendly at all

About time they got rid of all those annoying characters in peoples names. It made searching for people a true pain in the ass. What exactly is the point of using hexed characters anyway? Whenever I see them it just makes me think of all the lame little hacker wannabe kiddies who hang out on AOL.

My name (such as it is) came from the days of MPlayer when I found that name after name after goddamned name that I plugged into its registration program had already been used.
I eventually plugged in a code at random in a huff and Zza1pqx was born. Luckily for us Novas game have never been A-List so there is little chance of having to make do with a name we don't want simply because somone else has it. BUT I think there is a danger of having to call yourself by the name you want followed by a number (like hotmail advises you when you try and get the e-mail address you want) The point of this thread is that Nova have made changes that annoy the consumer for no discernible reason. I am glad that this change affects you positivley Mr Wall. I have never met lame 'little hacker wannabe kiddies' because I am old enough to buy my own ISP and so have never been with AOL. I am certain that this annoyance must be hell for you though and you have my comiserations. |

In every Delta Force game I have used the same name" ~Møü§E~ ". There were at least 5 other mouse using different hexed names. If you wanted to report a cheater, all you had to do was send a screen shot to nova showing the offenders name. What is complicated about that ? When the new naming policy came into effect I was lucky to get " MOUSE ". The others had to change there names. OK, having hexed characters is not essential but being able to use the normal keyboard characters to personalise your name is a fairly basic feature. e.g. *mouse* , ~mouse~ , @mouse@ ........ Anybody remember "WE WANT OUR NAMES BACK" on the nova forum ? I finally got a response from nova. All the reasons for changing the naming policy to catch cheaters could have been solved quite easily. I got the impression that the main reason they changed names was because there new fancy forum system could not handle hexed names. Most gaming companies have realised that the more a player can personalise there character, the more the player will play the game and purchase other add ons & games from the same company. Time to munch a shroom and chill out. Last edited by ~MOUSE~; 07-07-2004 at 07:37 AM. |

ok, ive read all the previous posts but still fail to see why they have deemed characteres such as * or ~ to be "hexed"???
Surely using standard keyboard symbols, letters etc isn't too much to ask....But they've even banned a lot of characters that are basic |

And to the people who again are not paying attention to what is going on, Novalogic have made the move to Punkbuster which is third party and doesn't require names to be ordered in nice alphabetical order in some kind of DOS based ISO setup.
Nova have no reason to keep, maintain or trawl through a database because punkbuster does the job for them. If you arent aware of this then fine, I have explained soemthing to you that you might now be happy to know. PLease do not requote over and over an answer that whilst I know is true is still in fact a meaningless response. I am rather more intelligent than I think you are giving me credit for and if there is something I have never been able to stand it's people who are missing the point inferring it is me thats a bit thick. Contribute by all means but if you don't actualy have anything to add then please feel free to sod off. You would wonder why * (amongst others) is considered hexed too. I suspect its because the redundant database Nova insist on using is based on unsophisticated file search setup. Cheap nasty and unneccessary. |
