i have downloaded ventrilo 2.2.0 , the program to talk overnet, but i absolutely don't know how to use it....
it asks for a server name....what do i have to write there???

i guess it's just the first step, so if someone is so kind to give me advice on how to use that program i'll be glad

Click the button next to the server name.
Now click new. Give it a name so that you know what server your connecting to

Then fill out the host/IP field.

Click ok, then ok again and now click connect.

mhhhh....i think i need to know WHAT host/IP to use, i mean, this shoulda be a specific ventrilo-supporting server or what???

this program uses a server to talk as you already found out, i know that 1 DF sqaud has a vent server, UFP http://www.ufp-squad.com .

the host/ip depends on who's server you are trying to connect.

mine is rage.typefrag.com:8484

So if your trying to join a specific squad ventrilo server, you need to contact them for their server info.

the thing with ventrilo is it don't list of host out there, not like Rogerwilco will show a listing of them to all. be nice till then best ask who hosting ventrilo and get the info so you can join in.

teamspeak don't work for me i have ventrilo instilled but not really use it at all. rogerwilco is best i like the sound in it not the greatest around but still it works and list all other who are hosting it.

pffft the whole talk over net thing was cool for a while...then i got tired of it. But yes Roger Wilco and Team Speak are the best imho.

ventrilo gives better voice quality then teamspeak, even when using a lower codec setting. The thing I liked about teamspeak was all the permissions that could be set.


And Voice over net is great for gaming. I have given up trying to warn my team mates when there is a guy by them. By the time I figure out where they, who's in danger and type it out in game chat it is too late.

With ventrilo (or teamspeak, rogerwilco, etc) I can take care of the guys around me, while warning my teammate.
