My guns "don't make no noise!"

Now, what's up with this! ..

All of a sudden I get all the normal sound out of the game - except MY guns... I can't hear my own guns shooting. I can hear all the other stuff like music, other guns, explosions, but I just can't hear my guns. Makes it tough to keep track of what's going on.

Anyone got any ideas? I've checked the sound options and everything looks OK. I use the 5.1 option, because I've got 5.1 sound.

I'd just reload the game but I'm afraid I'd lose all my progress (I'm working the "Mogadishu Mile" and I'd hate to lose everything else I've done). Starting over sucks unless it's voluntary.

fixed yet?

a reinstall would probably fix it. you can backup the saved game files easily, although i dont know the filename as i dont have the game installed.

i think that if you use the uninstaller it would leave the saved games and config in the folder, and just remove the rest of the game files.

Thanks Steve. I just got home so I haven't had a chance to look this stuff over. I'm thinking I'll try one of my older saved (and completed) games and see if I get the sound there .

Then I'll check the game folder and see if I can find the game file(s). Maybe if I could do a copy of the games and saved them somewhere else, I would feel confident in reloading the game. I just hate to start over when I'm only two games from finishing the whole shebang!

if you have ts+bhd the save file name would be
0tsbhd_0##.bmx
or
spbhd_0##.bmx

Ok, I've coped the entire BlackHawk Down folder and put it in a temp folder. Next move is to re-load the game.

I tried playing a previously saved game to see if the sound was gone there too, and it was...

So I'll reload it and look at the files section to see if all the old stuff is gone. Then try to reload the old .BMX files and see what happens.

Computers - ya love 'em or ya hate 'em (and mostly, both ...)

Well, once more, I DON'T GET IT, but I fixed it. I reloaded the game and that didn't do any good. But all my saved games were still there. So in scouring the "Options" section (Audio), I decided to uncheck the 5.1 sound just to see if that made any difference. I've been using that setting all along. Well, for whatever reason, it now works. I didn't realize that I also wasn't getting the voice commands that you get in the first person.

Anyway, the damned thing works as advertised now and - "Life Is Good".

Love 'em and Hate 'em...

I know why. On the back of my volume box with my 5.1 settup, there is a switch that has either 2.4 or a 6 option. That's how many audio channels you have. If you have the switch on 2.4 channels (Stereo) and 5.1 is selected in the options (And vice-versa), you won't hear certain sounds.

Just make sure 6 channels is on when using 5.1 in the options, or 2/4 when you are using standard sound in the game
