LAN problem

First I wanna say that I did check forums to see if this prob had been asked b4....

Prob is this....

I have a network setup between my 2 pc's, using a crossover cable.
I have installed IPX on both .... ICS and File Sharing are working fine.
When I host a LAN game on 1st pc everything seems fine, game loads without error messages.
When I try to use 2nd pc to join game and press "search" nothing comes up .... I have been patient with this (waited for over 5 mins) but still nothing.

Any Ideas?

P.S. game is TFD

had same problem here.
i dunno if u tried but we just had the opther computer hosting instead and it worked.

we had 4 comps and if i ever tried hosting no one could see the server, but if anyone else hosted then it was ok.

frustrating thing was that i set up all the comps and all were identical setups except i had a firewall. that was the only thing i could think was a problem, but even when i uninstalled it the situation was the same.

I have XP pro on 1 machine and XP home on the other...

I have disabled both XP firewalls....

I am convinced this is a IPX problem but i am clueless about it.

Does anyone know of a website with step-by-step instructions on this?

ipx was fine for lan games a few years ago, but honestly, every "new" game (like BHD) uses IP for LAN play.
and if you look even closer, you can choose between "novaworld" and "LAN IP" in the join menu.

so my advice is:
go to the TCP/IP settings on both comps and give them proper IP addresses and a subnet mask.

/edit: sorry, didn't see that you mean TFD. but the point should be the same ;-)

My version of TFD uses TCP/IP

IPX was used for Novell but even they use tcp/ip
