Cool Did you bother to watch the olympics?

Well the olympics are almost over again for another four years so did any of you bother to watch any of it?

There have been a lot of allegations of drug taking as is usual so do the olympics really show us the best athletes in the world or have they turned into a sham of what they should be?

It's a damn shame for the dedicated amateurs who soent so much of their time preparing for this event to have it tainted by the drug abuse of a few who want to win at all cost but is that due now to commercial pressure?

As money has become much more important to the olympic games has that turned them into a money generating spectacle?

Any thoughts...any one?

Warm regards to all

yeah i watched some of it, ive spent alot of time in hospital (im not the patient..) recently so i had time. Its kinda funny, the American news sites used total number of medals to judge the placings because they came in front of china when the accepted formula is the ost gold medals, which at the time china had more of. Australia is jokingly using the medals per head of population, which puts us in 2nd place behind the bahamas

http://www.abs.gov.au/Ausstats/abs@....a?OpenDocument

Sadly i dont think that there has been any more drug taking than previous years, the technoogy is in place now to catch a wider range of drug cheats.

From what i hear the IOC has had a no excuses campaign against grugs, good on them. Personally i believe that atheletes that test posiitive for illicet drugs at the olympics should be banned forever from the olympics.

The IOC is also keping samples for testing in years time when thetechnology is better, will be intersting to see what they find...

ended up watching it every day
enjoyed pretty much all of it apart from the horse events - c'mon i dont even think this should be an olympic event.

yesterday i watched the crazy madison event in the cycling http://news.bbc.co.uk/sportacademy/h...00/3650957.stm , never seen that before - 200 laps and 36 riders in that little arena! w00t.

again the GB team blew it in the pool my m8 raced in the 4x200m freestyle relay >> http://www.athens2004.com/en/Swimmin...nSubmit=%3E%3E and got 4th

most of the athletes we had i've never heard of before :/ i guess they should be better in 4 years time.

can't wait to see the next round of the lightweight boxing from Amir Khan > http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/olym...ng/3596762.stm who is only 17 but is amazing to watch.

i think GB did about as expected with medals, some but not a lot as usual

comming back to the drugs thing... man i hate this stuff. 10 ppl caught cheating this time so far (actually on the news last night it said 17 but i cant find info that says other than 10). they should be banned from all events forever. what really annoyed me was the hungarian ( i think ) discus thrower because i was totally amazed when he threw that thing so far, i thought he was awesome. but then he was thrown out, they showed him at the time he won and he was jumping about and waved his country's flag with pride..... all the time he knew he was a ****ing cheating bastard!!!

+ womens beach volleyball way great

Perdita Felician hit the first damn hurdle... she would of won gold had she not messed up. She actually lives a few blocks away from me (in Pickering, Ontario).

I have pretty much watched the olympics non stop since the begining... sucks that they areover in a few days.
