and why dont all porn sites change to it, it suits them and would also make it easier for parents and schools to stop children looking at porn.

that is explained in the article. the main reason would be that no one can ever enforce a ban on porn on all the other domain types.

whats changed? A couple years ago the whole xxx extension was ready to go but the US Government overruled ICANN and stopped it, same department that bitched that if the net was handed to anyone else it wouldnt be free when the Eu wanted to create a ruling body

TBH i think that most sites that would fall under the proposed xxx category would comply, what theyd do is host the site on the xxx domain and forward the .com .net etc etc to the xxx domain specifically, thus still allowing filtering....

Ill predict it now, theyll be a big flop, just like .aero .museum .info (to a degree) .coop .name and .pro. I think that .com .net and org will always be preferred along with the country code top level domains. ICANN have said that in the future they will pull support for unpopular tld's, you wont be able to register them so in 5 or 10 years tops they will all run out, smart move cause itll keep demand for the popular ones up...

Well a big thing is, when they come out there is going to be a huge shortage of .com, .net, .org domains so they'll look pretty nice to people i think.
