On the 2 occasions I visited Australia while in the military, it seemed that the local men frowned upon us American men cause we seemed more appealing to the local women since we treated them with respect and wined and dined them. I didnt go willingly to your country and never will because of this poor hospitality. England gave us more of a welcome.

I am a combat medic stationed at Camp Pendleton, a Marine Corp base in California. Been in the Navy for 12 years, 10 of which I have been stationed here with a Marine Unit which are the best bunch of guys anywhere. The M16A-2 is an awesome weapon this is true. But, my unit doesnt carry them, they either use M4's, Remington Model 700 sniper rifles or Barrets.

Oh yeah, and I thing Steve Irwin is hilarious. Kinda stupid, but funny. Anyone who does the kinda stuff he does with crocs is just plain retarded. lol

1. Yes we do have kangaroos around on the street and for those that wonder bout the 200 olympics, if y6ou look at the photo's you can see a fence on the hill this was to keep the roo's out.

2. Yes we do all wrestle crocodiles, it's taught in 3rd grade as part of the swimming.

3. Yes you do run with a cricket bat.

4. The drop bear is real, but it only hangs around a certain type of tree, so your chance of being attacked is very slim.

We werent there for any kind of training, we were there for liberty. (Port Call) Kinda like a mini vacation, spent 3 days there both times. Sydney mostly, the second time we also went to New Zealand.

Interesting post this Blackbelt. When you stop and think about it, there would be no Australia with out British colonisation so, really all your achievements are as a direct result of British expansionism! By the way, do you think Australia will become a republic? Personally I think you should, the old empire is long gone and the common wealth really does'nt matter any more. Finally I have to say this, I think the last century was the American century and let's face it, the United States has been a force for good in the world and has given far more to the world than it has taken. A great nation that is still relatively young and capable of much, much more. I for one am glad that the United States is our friend and ally and in any future conflict I think we in the western world should support them in any action they make have to take to protect our democracys. They may have made mistakes in the past but hell, what country hasn't? As an ex soldier I have had the honour of serving alongside American forces and have found them to be some of the finest soldiers on god's green earth! Be pround to be an Australian but always remember the debt we all owe the United States for being the arsenal of democracy.

yes we should be a republic, a couple of years ago Howard (a monarchist) put a vote up on the issue but under a very crappy system so most people voted no because the system put forward was ridiculous.

In the next 100 years america will cease to be the world's superpower and either england or australia will take it's place, this has happened through out history with the romans, egyptians to name the most noticable.
