Dont know about inida, but not complete bs in aus. A popular australian folk song is "Redback on the toilet seat". If your out country and there outdoor loos youd be well advised to check to see if theres spiders around...

I saw some in brazil that were a good 2-3 inches long but the body was not that large!

you would think it would be injured when it bites the bird by the bird jumping around trying to get out of the web. seems too big of a risk for a meal that will rot away before you could even finish it.

usually spiders will let their victim tire out before they bite it so they are not injured by the struggle of the victim. maybe that's what it did.
