Bottom line New Orleans Louisiana should never been built there at all.
you know what a (earthly dike) dame is right it hold water back, sample to make lakes or make electric for the public, but in this case 3-sides of a very large area was made to hold water out of a area (city) that is lower then the water table, if other wise if it was a lake that was empty out of water in the center area. An area is known to be flooded in many times over. Sorry to say this city should never have been built in this area to start with. I am amaze they made it working like this to hold so much water out of the city and pump all that water out of it to stay dry 7/24. there not much can be done about that we have to look forward and save what lives are still alive and get family who live through it all back together as a whole. i never think that New Orleans Louisiana will ever be the same after this. so many die and uprooted from thier homes. ------------------------------------------ There no way could the Fed-government do about; it’s up to the state senator to ask them to jump in not the people to make the call. States are not rule by the Fed Government; states have their own government to do the job when it gets out of hand they can call the fed government to get in the act for help.

I'm very glad to see we can all have a very mature debate about this very controversial issue because that's what these boards are all about!
I've worked all the hours in the day too but I don't begrudge paying a little extra tax to someone who may need a hand up from time to time after all that's part of being a good citizen in any nation. If that isn't so then why bother with Live8 or the original Live Aid? The recipients of the largess that was raised particulalry in Africa, are still as worse off as ever although they never seem to be short of guns to kill each other with! Then there is the issue of government corruption in most nations and it does go on from time to time just read the papers or watch the news. If we elect these people are we not culpable when their found with their hands in the nations pocket? How much "welfare" actually reaches those who need it? How much is syphoned off by greedy organisations and inviduals before it gets any where near the people who need it? In the case of New Orleans was it not known their was damage to the flood control measures? So why didn't the state officials get off their well paid backsides and make sure all the systems were well maintained in the first place? Or is it arrogant to believe that nature can be controlled in any way? Anyone briging "god" into the argument is only trying to find an excuse for mankinds own failings and mankinds unwillingness to pay that extra tax to make sure things like this don't have such a devastating effect on a community. It's not unlike our muslim brothers telling us that "allah" has told them to blow themselves up, (and a lot of innocent people with them!), and blaming their "god" for the decisions they make for themselves. In the United Kingdom we are rightly very proud of our National Health Service and our Social Security system, (although both have faults and I should know in the case of Social Security as I worked for the Department of Work and Pensions), because we no longer have starving people as we did in the 1930's at the time of the great depression, that we have a system that provides for those in need and prevents them from sinking into the gutter. We waste vast amounts of taxpayers money on the "arts", "sport" and lots of other nonsense that could be put to much better use in helping to provide a helping hand for those in time of need or ridiculous projects like Concord which is no longer in service but cost the U.K. taxpayer 2 billions pounds to develop and finally end up on the scrap heap! I could go on but there is little point, suffice to say that any civilised nation or government knows that adequate welfare provision is very neccessary for those in need. Regards ![]() |

Very glad to serve up some home-made pride. I come from a long line of hard working , job creating individuals that don't have time for excuses , too proud for handouts and quite self sufficient in all asects of life and religion. I found my place in life and I know where I stand. I found religion one day fishing a bubbly shoal...not in a church pew. I am more than happy to disagree and stand my ground...I never claimed to be right...but I have claimed to be a fisherman...and a friend.
