Getting to sleep habits
Having a chat with.a bunch of people last week and we somehow got onto the topic of things people have to do to get to sleep. I mentioned that my wife is heavily pregnant and as a result snores really loudly, as a result ive taken to putting on a youtube vid of rainforest sounds through earphones to block it out, I thought that was weird but apparently its not uncommon to have things like that in order to get to sleep.
So, anyone got any quirky habits like that? Have to have fan, tv going etc? Last edited by Lakie; 04-08-2013 at 08:59 AM. |

I like to put on my MP3 player (with earbuds) while its running one of my favorite podcasts at a really low volume. It can't be a new one that I haven't yet heard, though, or I'll end up actually paying attention, I just need something familiar and entertaining so that my mind stays in an "oh, yeah, I like this" loop, instead of wandering around my brain's basement, smashing open crates, digging up bodies, and complaining about the mess. I mean, look at the state of it...
I've tried this with music (the song "Echoes" from Pink Floyd, specifically), but music does not sooth my mind. I tend to start paying attention to it, with insomnial concentration, it's just not good. But hearing (NOT listening to) Chris Hardwick talking to Maria Bamford in Nerdist 289 for the umpteenth time... or maybe The Bugle, or Walking the Room... it's like a security blanket for my ears. Covers the slight tinnitus I have, too.

I can't sleep when there's any sounds around me. I did love the vacumer buzzing when I was a kid but now it needs to be really quiet (don't have a pregnent wife yet ). Light however isn't a problem at all, aslong as the sun isn't hitting directly into the eyes.
The problem is that I cant sleep with earphones or such as there would be two issues: 1. If there's a cord, i would of strangled myself in the sleep 2. I would crush anything on the outside of my ears This as I sleep on the side and I spin around like a tornado while asleep So sound is a real issue, if i had a pregnent wife/girlfriend (it's very common that they do snore) next to me I would probebly have to sleep on the balcony in the mean time haha |

How do you guys wake up with earbuds in your ear? I can barely hear the alarm without them.

Man, I don't have any problems going to sleep at all.
As long as my cpap is running ... I'm off to sleep with no problem. Can't sleep without it.

I'm lucky enough to be able to fall asleep though almost anything
My wife on the other hand, can hear a mosquito from outside and can't sleep because it's too loud.

I have to have a fan running to fall asleep. Something to circulate the air. It doesn't need to be blowing on me, but the hum of the fan helps put me to sleep.
