TV coax to RJ45
I'm helping my dad do some work on a barn hes building in our backyard. He wants to put a TV out there. I already ran (3) Cat6 cables out to the barn, and I do not feel like going through all that trouble again to run a coax cable.
I'm looking for an adapter that goes from RJ45 to Coax and vice/versa. I did a little searching and I found this. But what's stopping me from spending cash on it is will the TV on the opposite end still be able to change channels like normal? Can someone confirm that or help me find something else? |

$7.75 is cheap to pay for tv in a barn, so your horse ,pig, sheep? can watch TV,
really Mstenger404, tell us the truth here, and how exactly are you gonna get the animals to change channel, you gotta spend months training them, once done then you can rent them out to hollywood movies lololololololo |

I'm really not sure if that would work. Coax is shielded and I bet your cat6 is not. And also, the coax is going to be a bigger single gauge as the cat6 is separated into 8 individual wires. I guess it depends on the length and any interfering along the way. The TV channels will change as long as a signal can pass down the copper wire.
You'll probably need this: http://www.google.com/products?q=INT...ALUN+RF-F&aq=f

I showed my dad that link but since he's the one paying for everything hes skeptical about it. So now he's dead set on having me re-run the cables because it's so much cheaper for him. Darn the luck -.-

The balun should work fine.. alot of people on avsforums.com said they had the same issues and a balun worked for them.

I was on google and looking up RG-6 coax loss distances. I really couldn't come up with any conclusions and I suddenly find out that I need an amplifier to boost the signal before sending it 300ft to the barn. ok lemme open up paint.
Even after a bit of googling im even more unsure. All I want to know is will this work absolutely fine? keep in mind it'll be surrounded by 3 cat6 cables, will that affect it's signal? |

I think most people are just performance nazi's and would pay anything for that tiny extra bit of performance. The rest just follow the herd and have never even tried it. People said i'd need boosters for a very long run when I wired the building I work at but in my tests there was only a TINY performance difference, even at 400ft with unshielded cat6 cable... Cat6 is only rated to 330ft... I did end up using a switch but only because it would have been very expensive to run 15+ cables 400+ feet to the other end of the warehouse.
Standard coax that you buy in the store is capable of 200m (650ft+) and the ticker stuff is almost 3x that. The cat6 cables will not affect the coax because coax is always shielded. Your best bet will be to run another coax, or buy that balun and use your cat6 cable. Don't buy a booster until you know you need one. Then just buy something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Boost.../dp/B000066E6Y Sources: http://fcit.usf.edu/network/chap4/chap4.htm http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category_6_cable http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coaxial_cable

I'll keep that in mind. I really want him to get the balun just because its so much easier than re-running cables. But for the sake of his wallet I'll just order coax. maybe I can sway him by throwing in needless things that jack up the price /cough booster

Ok about a couple days ago we actually pulled all the cables out and re pulled them all back through, we ran into a couple of problems and attempted to pull them twice already, rage storms ensued but in the end we were finally able to get the 3 cat6 cables and a RG11 coax through, now we got TV in there and all is good now. PARTY!!
