Microsoft Security Essentials
Anyone used it yet?
I've had it for a few weeks now and it seems to be pretty light on the hardware. I had norton 2009 on this thing and it slowed it down a lot.

Slowed it down a lot is ref. to the AV 'footprint', and I agree Nortons though efficent
has a footprint that is just unbearable in many arty or games pc's, more of a business app. The real question here atholon, is how much are you risking to loose? If you are just the average home gamer then very little, other than stuff that you already havn't backed up, photos emails etc, but if you are best described as a medium to heavy user, more than 4-6 hours a day, then it may be assumed you have some heavy ira'placable stuff that may be backed up every hour or so. Iv'e had very good results from Kaspersky, Nod32 and even AVG(free) they are described as 'GOOD' because they got and caught the bugs, easy to use, and didn't hassle me for cash or email but once a year, and the 'footprint' was tiny so life can go on when they are running. The second question you may ask yourself is .....why did M$ wait 23 years before they came up with there own AV, when they could have one from the begining, included with the os updates, and gain further billions $$$ at the same time.....go figure |

I put free AVG on my mom's computer a couple years ago and it's just way to slow. It was the only free one at the time but it always nags her to update and gives her tons of warnings so she just ignores them or shuts it off.
Her new computer is running with the free MSE and you don't even notice it's there. It never bugs her even if it catches spyware or a virus. I would compare it to the nod32 i have on my pc's in terms of speed and how it just runs in the background. MSE is a great set it and forget it virus program. I will probably be moving to it when my NOD32 subscription expires.

We got a free year subscription to norton 2010 and BYU's internet wouldn't let you on if you had MSE so I used norton for a while. Now that they allow you on with MSE I have nuked Norton.

will i gone the way of Microsoft Security Essentials totally now!
do to avast is less secure on catching viruses and gone the way of limited it! other wise for the full coverage. full package cover for all type of viruses one has to pay for it now days. found two download Trojan horse in my system, other did not find them or see them at all. =========== comcast-McAfee is a over kill and did not catch viruses 100% unless they become active then it may see them. it was a resource hug for me as will. watching video online it was make it lag or skip a lot. some time the video like from hulu.com would even freeze a bet too as it was playing the video. after un-install McAfee no more lag/skip of flv videos as one watch them.

After using it on my production workstation at work i think I will be moving everyone to this when our NOD32 subscription expires in May. This is a very simple and very fast virus program. It also never bothers anyone for anything which is good for my sanity at work.
