Cool, more competition is better for us all. I've been using Chrome as my main browser for about a month now and i'm really enjoying how fast and simple it is. I've not run across any websites that don't work well with it.
If Google comes out with an OS that is as stable and snappy as the browser I will definitely have to check it out.

its about time.
Though, its still just linux with their own window system, with what ever tweaks they are going to throw in to make it more secure |

probably bad in some ways for existing Linux distros, but good news for open source.
can't imagine any directx support |

depends lol.... personally I don't like the idea of applications running on the web - I want them to be able to run when ever.... like when I'm up north on vacation, staying in a cottage where the only phone is a cell phone (they want around $1000 to put a phone line in)....
apps would be useless then if they can't run in off line mode, though if they are using the os for netbooks then I guess that isn't an issue. I wasn't impressed with their browser, so we'll see how they do with an OS |

I think it'll run fine for college students...however gamers won't have a use for it unless Google can write software that emulates DX9 - DX11.

I'm not a fan of "cloud computing" either. Running applications straight from the web just does not settle with me.

they do have software already that will run directx 9 games (winex is one of them, forget the other one) - it doesn't run every game, and some run better then others, but they are working on it - only a matter of time before the newer versions of directx is supported, if not already -it has been a while since I have dealt with the software.

I'm not really a fan of the while cloud computing boom either, even though I know it's inevitable. To me, it means nothing is really personal anymore. Everything personal you own is just a username and password away. Or just not clearing your cookies from a public computer. Not only that, but without any federal regulations on the internet that prevent ISP's from limiting or preventing traffic it really makes me unconfortable. Who knows what these companies are doing with your data? Last I heard Google catalogs pretty much everything you do.

nothing keeps the ISP's from limiting traffic - in fact they already are from what I hear in the news... thankfully mine doesn't
but I agree. If I do a spreadsheet, I want it saved on my computer. And I want it to stay there until I expressly put it some place else lol |
