DFLW "Terrain Flicker" Out of Control
It's a given that any terrains in DFLW will flicker and wobble around in the distance - more so when the terrain is more complex; less so when the terrain is composed of simple and smooth hills/bumps, but with a DF2 terrain I ported to LW, I spotted that the worst of the 'Terrain Flicker' was actually on flat ground...
I'd just finished testing out DF2's Motorcade mission, when, as I escorted the senator to the extraction point, I spotted that the road started to suddenly explode before my eyes up into the air. o.O In 1st person, I get a system dump if I try to run into these weird flickery vertical explosions of dirt. This is not on the edge of the color/height map, but innocently somewhere almost in the very center. The ground may be rising to the sky, but it's still flat. There are no corrupt null markers, or any null markers at all, near, on, or around the glitch area. This is just an absolutely random glitch, and it happened again when I reloaded the mission. XD |

is it a constant height or does it go up and down?
always in the same place? i'd definitely try to pinpoint where it is and go back to the heightmap and maybe re colour that specific area. i know it happens at the edges if the height map is not 100% perfect, but in the muddle... :/ yeah like you said that would be a bit strange. |

As you can see from the first two pictures, it flickers up and down (occasionally going off the screen if you look at it from the right angle XD).
And yup, exact same place, right along the shadow line, and an extra square meter beside that where there isn't any shadow. This also happens in Front Runner (another DF2 quickie port), which uses the same map, but just a different part of the map so I didn't see it back when I first tested Front Runner. Anyways, I'm gonna go see if I can get it to stop happening by heading to the _c.tga... Edit: It is not the color map. XD Last edited by CajNatalie; 08-16-2008 at 10:41 AM. |

Did you port the DF2 terrains yourself or download them? Since they have already been ported to DFLW.
Those errors could mean heightmap seam errors, when the heightmap isn't quite seamless. I've experienced it before, but in another game.

I self-ported (I even went through the trouble of converting every single index in the texture maps of every single player terrain). 8D
And I checked the heightmap... all 0,0,0s and 1,1,1s in that area. I think it's just the slope next to it that's making it act weird... I mean the slope a little southwest of there, on the same side of the road, has a funny flicker to it, too... but the flicker is actually on the slope though. XD |
