It's pretty good, but you may want to look for a dedicated graphics card. You say you'll only use it for school now, you wont be saying that a month after you get it. Expecially if you want to use Vista Aero. Other then that all the specs look nice.

ive found it difficult to find a vaio with a dedicated card

why do you need a vaio? There are literally hundreds of laptops with Core2, 1+GB ram and a dedicated card from ATi or nVidia.

Seems like a good deal to me. My first laptop was an Acer. I had it for about a year with no problems, then sold it to someone at school cause I wanted a dedicated graphics chip.. He says he hasen't had any problems with it either.

i think its a dedicated card in the acer im looking at
