Creating Squad website

Hi guys... can any one help or point me in the right direction... A group of us meet up on JO:ESC couple of nights a week, and now we would like to create a website and star hosting our own server... how do we go about this and where do we start.. we run a few games from one of our pc's, but mostly joint other squads, Hardmaps, Alph Squad, Smurfs of war etc...

If some one can help or point me to a website that can get me started that would be great!

It all depends what you want,

There are a few hosting companys about that will let you rent a server from them, and have it as a dedicated server 24/7, and they start around £60 p/mnth

Also webhosting and domains, you can get domain + webhosting v.cheap, and also v.expensive.

I am currently with http://www.hosting-unlimited.net where i pay £38 per year, for 2 domains, and decent webspace.

As for websites, you can do something like PHP-Nuke, Highly not recommended, but it would allow you to have a feature packed site, with forums intergrated, and aload of "skins" to choose from to make the site look and perform as you would like it.

Or you could make your own site using something like photoshop, alot of tutorials are available on www.pixel2life.com or www.good-tutorials.com

Yea PHP is the best for squad sites and if you have your own server all you have to do is download and host yourself.

I use geocities, but i may be changing here soon.

If you pay like 5-7 dollars a month i think it is you can get No Ads,a decent amount of space,and FTP Access.Its enough to buiild a website as good as PHP websites.There are other cheap packages by Geocities also.Most of its HTML though.With FTP though you can upload alot of good graphics and layouts for your site including HTML Templates.

Resident PHP coder Scott made a script long tim ago called Simple Squad Site, its a nice script that provides the basics of a squad site, news, roster, recruitment, next atch details etc etc

You need php and mysql to use it.

Is it easier to set up than regular PHP Mike.I cant set PHP up and someone helped me once but its too difficult to understand.I wish i could get <=CP=> a good site using that Simple Squad Site thing.

Simple Squad site took me around 5mins to set up ages ago when i used to use it, then i used to spend around 2-4days customising the code totally so it was custommed to me, not the standard installation.

I have checked out some of Scotts Scripts before so im sure this will be as good as the rest were.I just never knew it how to set it up but im sure it will be a piece of cake for me.I will give it a try out here a day or so.
