ADSL Internet Connection drops when hosting/joining lan game
Good Day guys. I've got an ADSL broadband connection in South Africa. Whenever a buddy and I try to set up a network game in Joint Operations, I lose the Internet connection.
I have phoned, emailed and cursed to no avail. Please help me with this problem. I've got 2 copies of the game, so the CD-KEY conflict is'nt the issue. The router is an 'ADSL router pots' marconi modem. I also know that the router does not have a firewall, so we can rule that one out. Both pc's are WinXP going thru a hub together with the router. |

in the US we have same troubles with this too some times it the service ADSL they don't really like gamers using their service some will even drop a people (ROADRUNNER) and remove their router totally.
it has to do with the router settings, i don't have any info on this. but other should be able to tell you how or were to look it up to change the setting so you can play or host a game using the ADSL (DSL) router

Routers have a known issue with hosting and using some applications with a router especially if you use PPPoE (sp?) and it will drop the connection, I have not figured out why yet and i havent found a sulotion on the net either, havent been looking too long for it either though so there might be a solution to it but I'm not aware of one and if you do find one please post it
A nice fix for this, the only one i know is to have a seperate modem an unplugg the router temporarly and plugg the modem directly to the computer instead, have never had this issue with that setup so its defenetly the router thats the problem in my case atleast (and it doesnt matter what router you have, as a person with a Linksys router and cable/fiber will have no problem but a person with a Linksys router and ADSL will have a problem, like me). This will not happen on a cable or fiber connection. Sorry can't help you, hope someone in the world knows a fix to this. |
