keeping images from repeating itself?

how do you keep a background image from repeating itself??

IE:
a red background fading to black and it starts over again.. (red to black red to black instead of red to black all the way down the page)

i found how but i know nothing about css...

when useing css use this code

BODY { background: url(bgimage.gif); background-repeat: no-repeat }

i can edit css but writing it is another thing...

can i just use css to specify background?

Put this in the <head></head> tag

<style type="text/css">
BODY { background: url('YOUR_BACKGROUND_IMAGE'); background-repeat: no-repeat;
}
</style>

i want that background image to be over whole page without having a large image... that would slow down site allot..

EDIT:

I figured out a few things but the red part is just a small piece on the top of page... how do i fix that? i tried editing image..

i think you need to resize them 2 images each side of the logo i made for you soo the top red area look even, not chop off to say.

172x142 then they will match even with the logo image (banner)

logo/banner size is: 655x142

this is for another skin.. im trying to get background right then ill redo all that.. we are going to make several skins for the site..

you cant streatch a background image.. you can only repeat it.
