SATA hard drives..

my brothers computer parts came in yestarday .. so i was building it and i went to put the hard drive in and i noticed the plugs were way diffrent ..

i'm used to the ones with the big plugs and the cables are like big ribbons .. can someone explain to me how these work?

what i dont get is it has a plug in the back for the power supply, and then like the SATA plug, but wider one next to it, which the powersupply came with that plug .. so do you put both in?

also he only got one ... does that matter with SATA? cause by the directions it looks like your supposta have two ..

any help would be great

*crap thought i hit Hardware .. could an admin move it

I dont know what you mean by just one? I have 2 power supplies here.. One has the longer SATA connectors and the other doesn't. SATA works fine on both of them.

For the power supply with the longer SATA cables I connected all 3 cables to the back of the sata drive.

For the power supply that does not have the longer sata connector I just connected the regular 12v power cable (Same as on your CDROM) and the smaller sata cable to the hdd.

I took a pic of my sencond computer without the long style sata connectors.. just hook it up as you see in the pic.

be careful with the connectors though, they are stupidly flimsy. way to easy to snap the connector off the drive
