DF2 Multiplayer - Help Please

I downloaded DF2 off a gaming site. I would like to use the multiplayer feature with my brother. I thought in DF1 we connected to each other by entering the IP address of whomever was hosting the game between us. I'm not sure how to do it in DF2. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am running the trial version now and want to purchase the game but can't figure out the multiplayer aspect.

I see the multiplayer options are NovaWorld and LAN/IPX. I assume LAN/IPX is for computers connected to the same network. Since that isn't my case, is it as easy as choosing NovaWorld, serve and play, selecting a game name and game password, letting my brother know both, and having him join?
