New Design

The site isn't near finished yet, and the design is iffy at best.

Go ahead and c&c on what it needs.

The good part about it, is that it's tableless .

also feel free to stop by and register on the forums! -- SAY HI! lol

Main issue I see is the nav block is too big, all that space before the links doesn't look right.

Also wouldn't hurt for the font to be a little darker.

Tableless is only a good thing when the site flows.

I'm gonna tone down the nav block a bit. I'm also gonna be changing the color scheme I really dislike it. I'm not sure what would be a good color scheme though, any suggestions?

Also the nav box will need to big enough (eventually) for a login box that I'll be adding. I'll be adding a login box (global with the forums) and then when a user is logged in he can download free scripts and stuff.

I don't know I'm kind of more impressed with the fact I made a 2-Column design, now it's time to make it look good hehe.

EDIT: One last question, do you think the navigation bar should stretch as far as the content box?
EDIT2: Sorry, what is a good professional back ground color?

I don't think the nav block should be any bigger then needed.

Personally I really like the 3 column design, it just makes the best use of page space, though I understand that not every site is going to need three columns

Generally I try to keep my left and right columns about the same width as most php-nuke sites, or even novahq's main page... Its wide enough to display basic info, and leaves the center for all the main content.

As for "professional background color" White is pretty common.. But really that is up to the website designer's preference...

Thank you guys I was thinking whites and blues, I just didn't know how I was going to do it.

Here is the site, with the changes you suggested (to my best of abilities). I also beefed up the nav bar with some fake links until I get those pages built so that way you can kind of preview what the site should look like in full operation.

I'll be taking other suggestions, and any comments you guys may have!

Now for the fun part. Coding it lol.

Gonna be getting the smarty template system too wooT!

by one blue color do you mean text color/back ground color on nav/header? or do you mean same back ground color blue on nav and header?

I gave the light grey a try out, I like it, it helps elimante some blank space!

EDIT: I also added more margin to it, to try and center and close in the content more. So the users aren't having to look all over the screen!

EDIT2: I'm also considering changing up the font type a little, however I'm not sure if that's a good idea?

lol I like how it came out, it looks like I'm getting close to the end of the tunnel.

Hey JonM (Elite)! Check out my humble effort with CSS (www.n-i.us).

Pick a color which people can come back to and when they read your content it doesn't hurt their eyes. Look at your site for 2 mins and you'll see what I mean.

My two cents

This is a bit off-topic, but go to www.bloggang.com (mum goes there 24/7), and check out a blog entry...

The layouts on the site are obsolutely horrible and the whole thing is overkill lol (BlogGang site).

BTW JonM, I can make you a site header graphic if you want, and maybe some navigation buttons will do... dunno...

blue and grey hurt your eyes? (i don't mean this offensively, I'm just checking for sure cuz they don't really hurt mine)

BTW I like your site a lot. Mainly this design is to learn CSS, then I'll end up scraping it for a much more professional one. Before I left web design/development for a while I was pretty good at CSS but I've forgotten it all lol

A header graphic would be great, and much appreciated. I don't really navigation buttons, as of I like text navigation more - Thanks though

Yeah that particular tone of blue does. Guess I'm getting old huh?

Yeah, I'm ok with the current design for now. Just working on back end mostly now. Trying to make it it come alive.

One thing I can suggest, which I'm thinking of doing is, add option for users to select different layout colors. Since, it's CSS.. I htink it should be a breeze. This way annoying people like myself will switch to whatever color they want to. Just a thought

Simple, but effective ():
