I know most of you are sensible enough not to smoke and it's just as well as one of our local stores is now selling 20 Park Drive, ( a well known British brand of ciggys), for the outrageous price of £6.00 per pack, ($10.31!)!!!!
It's no wonder everyone and his brother is packing the bloody things up!!!! Regards ![]() |

Ultimately to achieve 1 of 2 possible outcomes IMO:
A) Increase in tax revenue. B) Deter people from smoking. Though it's more effective at causing A than it is B as cigarettes are relatively price inelastic due to the addictive nature. However, hopefully all the proposed legislation and anti-smoking campaigns etc etc will lead to greater price elasticity and more smokers will let the cost factor become an issue and will stop smoking - then of course the government have to get their tax revenue elsewhere :-).

If so why should people have to get ill off your Car fumes? After all you would die a lot faster from a tube from the exhaust into the car than you would having a car full of smokers, So now which is more dangerous? I always think of things like this I am not a smoker any longer but the goverment should think its not just smoking its all the crap you breath in just breathing too.

Tobacoo companys don't pay tax's they pass it onto the buyer, in the end you the public will get tax's to death. bottom line they never get tax's we the buyers get it in the end. so the price get jack up on us all.
in other word they need more money, so they come up with new ways to tax people to get the money. they don't know how to handle money spend and spend it like running water. never ask them how much money they have in their bank account they will not asker you its empty and need more money in it.

Honestly though, put it to like 20 a pack. and put pure nicotine in it. that way they will get their monies worth and die after smoking a solid pack...its such a horid habbit to get into and a waste of money.

The enitre planet is being warmed by car emissions and other sources so higher taxes will not prevent deaths on a collosal scale and if we are to prevent everyone from smoking why not ban fast food as it's causes heart attacks and obeseity, alcohol which accounts for 250,000 deaths per year, any sport that leads to injury of any kind as by not doing it it's preventable.
The list is almost endless and if more people live longer how are we too feed, house and clothe them all? The fact is we all die and we all need to so that others can have a chance of a new life, if we do nothing even slightly dangerous in life then what point is there to it? I for one refuse will refuse to pay any tax for any sport related injury as I do not participate in sports, if I stop driving why should I pay for injurys caused by lunatics driving cars to fast? It's just plain silly so do what you want to do and enjoy life smoking or other wise. Sanctimonious statements about the evils of smoking are and inidication of a bankrupt soicety that has serious problems with real drug addiction such as heroine etc. Regards ![]() |

im not usually in favour of making laws specifically targeted, but id make it a crimimal offence to smoke if you arent of the legal age to smoke as of the date the law is passed. That way we just wait for the current generation of smokers to kill themself off and weve got a smoke free world.
Id also restrict the sales of smokes to liquor stores and places that are that tightly controlled anyway... |
