NovaLogic sues Activision
NovaLogic is suing Activision over the use of the trademarked "Delta Force" in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. NovaLogic claims the publisher has illegally usurped the logo and the name "Delta Force" for missions involving a unit with the same name and logo. NovaLogic had released nine games in their Delta Force series.
The underlying issue is that while there is a real life US military unit called the "Delta Force" on which Modern Warfare 3 is basing its missions, it is not an officially recognized moniker for the unit, which is technically called "1st Special Forces Operational Detachment-Delta". It doesn't help that the insignia created by unit founder Col. Charlie Beckwith resembles the logo of the Delta Force videogame. It is through this that NovaLogic is basing its lawsuit. According to the developer, "The U.S. Army officially denies that any unit called Delta Force exists and does not claim ownership to either the Delta Force name or the logo." The developer also claims that Activision has ignored two cease-and-desist letters sent in May 2011 and December 2011, and therefore is seeking damages and a trademark infringement injunction. here http://www.courthousenews.com/2012/05/15/46498.htm ) Stay tuned. |

ISSUE: here is can you copyright something that don't exist? US Army says it don't have a Delta Force?????? just as well it don't exist, then some gaming company would make a billion dollar game out of it, then leave it's fans with no support LOL |

I believe I said this somewhere else, but this might be the one time Nova can beat Activision at something.

to MERMITE
its was a code name for a mission not copy righted i guess you can think of it that way or a special type of solider that's been train for a mission type! for mission like sample US-Rangers or USMC Seals i guess you can think of delta force as joint of special solider mix-in for a special hit unit! maybe in it 60 personal, not as a company size has 150 personnel in it about. my unit 1/9inf Hq (foot infantry) in south Korea, we use headhunter as a code name or nick name not the same as a motto; keep up the fire. we were UN-Police force for the DMZ year around in the US-Army units come and go (deactivated all the time) basic the unit get a new signal to use and old unit get deactivated maybe Delta Force was no longer name wise being use or deactivated, US-Army has number to the unit name like 2/3 ___ to it, not use of words only, but they use wording for code name for a mission type ops names the US-Army for special mission ops name get trash all the time
