The U.S. Supreme Court today did not release its long-awaited ruling on whether the District's handgun ban violates the Second Amendment. That means the potentially landmark decision will almost certainly come tomorrow morning when the court is planning to issue the last of its rulings for the term. The case, District of Columbia v. Heller, which was argued nearly four months ago, could settle the decades-old debate over whether the Second Amendment grants individuals the right to own firearms.

Mayor Adrain M. Fenty is planning to hold a news conference at the John A. Wilson Building after the decision is announced.

i for one don't own a gun! i have use many type of guns/rifles in my life time. but don't take away my given right to own one ether, i gave many years in service for this country and have less right do to some jerk who don't care is not right to taken my right away from owning one.

they didnt fix anything, i read the full details and even thoe they ruled we have the right to have a gun, they also ruled that the states have the right to regulate who can have one and where ya can carry.

The majority allowed room for the prohibition of dangerous and unusual weapons. It did not explain what they ment by unusual and dangerous weapons.


basicly now if ya live in DC ya have the right to have a gun if ya pay for permit but ya cant carry it out of ya home, ya dont get mugged in ya home much, ya get mugged walking down street or when ya at atm or driving thru bad neighborhood.

im like wtf is these people smoking, the 2nd amendment says shale not be infringed, where the hell do they get this the 2nd amendment applys only to those who pay a tax and is limited to your property, and is void under certain occasions? saying ya cant have one unless ya pay a tax to get a permit is infringement itself, lets take into account what a permit is.

a permit is a writen or signed agrement between a civilian and a official granting that civilian a privalage that would normaly be illeagle.

ya see that they have labled our rights as a privalage, if ya dont pay the tax and sign the agrement it is illeagle for you to have a gun and that is infringment, they ruled ya have the right to keep and bear arms so why the permit, and why cant ya carry it in ya car that is your property?

It is tempting to use a weapon for self defense but I would be too worried that someone innocent would get hurt. I obviously wouldn`t want to go down without a fight like in a mall when some crazy person comes in shooting people.

I would be afraid of some accident happening with my firearm. Like a kid getting ahold of it when I am distracted. I know people say that people who take proper care of their guns will not have that problem but people are not perfect and one day I may mess up. I don`t think it is worth it right now for me.

If things get worse then I may consider it.

i remember in a moble home park a guy shot a 45cal gun off and it gone through 4 moble homes and hit a lady in her 60s. she live but the pain of it would never leave her! she got shot in hip it got broken real bad.
