Chavez stokes old Falklands fires

Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez has called on the UK to hand over the Falklands to Argentina.

He said: "We have to remember the Falklands, how they were taken away from the Argentinians".

"Those islands are Argentina's. Return them, Mr Blair. Those islands are Argentina's."

His comments have re-ignited latent feelings over the region, dormant since the Falklands conflict of 1982.

Mr Blair infuriated Mr Chavez earlier this week when he said he questioned his attitude to diplomacy and respect for the international community.

The Prime Minister also said he would prefer to see Venezuela's ally Cuba function as a true democracy.

Mr Chavez responded to Mr Blair's comments by branding him "a pawn of imperialism" and "the main ally of Hitler" - a reference to US President George Bush.

In his latest attack on Mr Blair, Mr Chavez said Britain had violated the sovereignty of various nations - citing the case of the Falklands.

Downing Street would not rise to the attack. The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "I don't think it is to anybody's benefit to get into a war of words on this.

"The position of the Falkland Islands has been stated many times. That remains the position. I am not sure comments like this are helpful and I think it is better to draw a veil and move on."

Britain recaptured the Falklands after Argentinian troops invaded in 1982. Hundreds were killed on both sides in the three-month conflict.

Chavez knows this and there must be more underground between world leaders leading up to a major international conflict with more intent than terrorism. Or yes, Chavez is insane which I don't thikn he is but a proud man leading his people to what he knows as his way of life. Lets not fight. Lets realize the undermining problems and live with what we have. Don't ask for too much for not enough will ever be granted without struggle or discontent. Wish for a peaceful resolution. But if Britain is threatened and my distant cousins blood falls on Argentinan soil, I will fight also and destroy with any means necessary in my civialian phycological power and give a resolute justice to thy enemies. Don't become one Chavez. This is not a threat by an American but as a man from God!

funny to think about it: Iran,N-Korea,Cuba,Argentina all are running their country into the dirt, not given a thought about the people of their country they can sh*t on them all, as long as they in power there not much can be done to get their own country back in good working order without starving the people off at same time or run them into the ground for their own pride. very sad leader that do that to their own people.
