REPORTER SNATCHED IN IRAQ
A journalist for the Guardian newspaper has been kidnapped in Iraq.

Rory Carroll, 33, the paper's Baghdad correspondent, is thought to have been taken by an armed gang.

He was abducted in Sadr City, a Shi'ite-dominated poor area of Baghdad and a stronghold of radical cleric Moqtada al-Sadr.

Mr Carroll, an Irish national, had been watching the opening of Saddam Hussein's trial on television with an Iraqi family before he was snatched.

He has been in Iraq for nine months.

The Guardian issued a statement confirming Mr Carroll was "missing, presumed kidnapped".

It added: "It is believed Mr Carroll may have been taken by a group of armed men.

"The Guardian is urgently seeking information about Mr Carroll's whereabouts and condition."

Mr Carroll, a former Northern Ireland young journalist of the year, has previously been posted in Rome to cover southern Europe for the Guardian and was South Africa correspondent in 2002.

think the media should start taking notice of this now... its getting silly, maybe these reporters should have 24 hour bodyguards. after all.. they are providing a much needed service for the rest of us!!!

i personally think its cowardly kidnapping civilians, especially reporters who are neutral
